  • As a small business owner, I know that sometimes it’s difficult to compete with larger companies. Someone who works from their home office or bakes out of their own kitchen doesn’t usually have the man-power or the money to create big, flashy ad campaigns to draw in new customers. I find that most of my business is from word of mouth, and I’m sure that’s the case with many other small business. You hear about the local bakery from someone who went there or you smelled the bread as you were walking by.

    Small Business Saturday

This holiday season, we can help support local business on Small Business Saturday. Created by American Express, Small Business Saturday is our opportunity to help support our communities by shopping at a local small business. This year, Small Business Saturday is on November 26, one of the busiest shopping weekend of the year. Since you’ll probably by out shopping anyways, go ahead and take some time to browse that corner store or have lunch at a local restaurant to help the small business owners in your area.

I know that I have my favorite local spots – whether it’s the Farmer’s Market in a nearby park or the new bakery that just opened up down the street. There are so many opportunity to shop locally and you’ll often get more personalized service from the store owners themselves.
