Somehow I have ended up with a desk drawer that has about 5 different phone chargers, none of which charge my phone. I’ve lost the charger to my iPod, so the only way I can charge that while I’m on the go is if I have a laptop and the USB cable or bring my speakers – neither of which is very convenient. Thanks to the Powermat, I can ditch that drawer of chargers with confidence and finally have a convenient way to charge the iPod. What’s even better is that the Powermat can wirelessly charge so much more – up to four different electronics….at one time even!
About Powermat Wireless Charging
When it comes to setting up the Powermat Wireless Charging Home & Office mat, it’s simply a matter of plugging in the power cable. The mat itself is low-profile, and is about 12.5″ long and 4.5″ wide. The mat has three indicator lights that light up when charging a device and the mat will play a little tune when it detects a Powercube Universal Receiver or other Powermat device. Both the volume and the brightness of the lights can be adjusted.
In addition to the mat, the Home & Office Mat kit came with 8 interchangeable tips (and a carrying case) that you use with the Powercube Universal Receiver. The mat can charge up to four devices at a time, one via USB (at the back) and three via the Powercube receivers or Powermet-enabled devices. I wanted to test out the charging capabilities of the Powermat.
First, I sorted through the tips that came with the mat. They have tips for your Sony products, Nintendo DS, Apple products, and others. To connect the tip, you simply attach it to the mini USB that is part of the Powercube receiver. I connected a 2nd generation iPod using the Apple tip, used the special iPod Touch receiver (which is a case that goes around the iPod), connected my Motorola flip phone via the mini USB and the LG phone using a USB cable. I plugged in the cable and then put the receivers onto the mat one by one. The receivers are magnetized so you will fill a slight pull in addition to the audio cues to let you know that you have your receivers in the right spot. The LEDs at the front will also illuminate when a connection has been made.
I believe that this is where the “wireless” portion of the name comes into play. These four devices are being charged without any wired connections to wall plugs our outlets. They obviously need to be connected to something (such as the receiver) but instead of needing to have four charges and four outlets, you are connecting to a receiver and then placing it onto the mat, which then proceeds to charge your devices wirelessly. In the case of the iPod Touch, you can even keep it in the charging case at all times so all you would need to do is place the iPod Touch on the mat for some juice.
I was impressed by how quickly the Powermat seemed to charge my devices. My phone would go from one bar to three bars in a matter of minutes, and I noticed similar performance on the LG phone.
When it comes down to it, it’s a matter of organization and ease. In my mind, the strength of the Powermat is that it eliminates the need for tons of different chargers, and instead you can get three of the Universal Receivers that can be converted to charge different devices with the tips. This past weekend when I was out of town, it seemed like a scavenger hunt to find even one plug, so I was relieved to have the foresight to bring the Powermat which allowed me to charge everything using just one plug to an outlet.
If you have piles of phone or electronic devices chargers, travel with several devices, or just hate to see gobs and gobs of wires, I would definitely recommend you check out the Powermat Wireless Charging system. It is easy to use, is flexible and portable, and let’s be frank, just looks COOL. It comes in several different mat sizes with lots of options for receivers which will allow you to customize your Powermat solution according to what your household needs.
