Many of us carry our own little bottles of hand sanitizers around in our purse. When we touch something icky and can’t wash our hands, or if we’re around people who were recently sneezing snot, or even while riding public transportation, we’ll pull out our little bottles of germ killers for protection. But not all bottles of germ killers are the same. Prefense is a new, alcohol-free hand sanitizer that seems to be doing many things other hand sanitizers don’t.
Prefense is easy to apply – one squirt from the bottle and it dispenses a nice foam that you can quickly and easily rub onto your hands. It took just a few seconds for the immediate “wet” feeling to go away, and about 20 seconds for my hands to feel totally dry. There is a very light scent which reminds me a little bit of cucumber melon. What was interesting to me was that when you put on Prefense, your hands actually feel like you’ve put on a light moisturizing lotion.
There is no stinging, no weird smell, and no stickiness. The difference is the “Silica Complex” that is used instead of alcohol. The Amosilq Silica Complex not only forms a protective barrier to kill germs, but also contains moisturizing agents and orgaic botanicals to help prevent drying, redness and chapping – all things which can result from repeated hand-washing or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Even after washing my hands a few times, I could still feel the softness I felt when I initially put on the Prefense.
I think that’s something else that’s really nice about Prefense – Prefense lasts a long time. And I mean, really long. As in, one application can protect your hands from germs and bacterial for 24 hours or up to 10 hand washings. How does it do that? Basically, the silica base creates a barrier around your hands which continuously “slices” germs on contact. The protection lasts until the skin sloughs off your hands or through 10 washings. That means for up to 24 hours, you can have protection against E. coli, staph, strep, and a number of other germs and organisms.
Another thing to consider is that Prefense is 100% natural. It is made off all-natural, organic ingredients and doesn’t have any alcohol. That helps make it very kid-friendly. It’s non-toxic, non-flammable, and won’t hurt you if accidentally swallowed (but still keep it safe and out of reach of small kids! Safety first!)
Prefense is available in two sizes – a convenient 1.5oz bottle which is ideal for purses or bags, and an 8oz bottle which you can keep at home or in the office. The 1.5 oz bottle, which lasts for ~120 applications (or 120 days) retails for just $8.50 on REI.com and is also available for purchase at REI stores nation-wide. You can also purchase Prefense online on Amazon.com.
For an effective, kid-friendly, and convenient hand sanitizer that will work to continuously protect you from icky germs and bacteria, Prefense fits the bill.
