  • Clogged toilets are not fun. You flush the toilet then watch as the water rises, rises, rises, praying under your breath that it doesn’t breach the edge of the toilet and then breathing a quick sigh of relief when it stops just before the water goes over the edge. Then of course comes the “fun” part, grabbing a toilet plunger and unclogging the toilet. The thought of unclogging a toilet just brings up images of all kinds of gross, with all of that imagery tied back to the plunger.

About the Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger

The Clean & Dry Plunger brings new innovation to the plunger category by repelling water for less mess.

    The Review

I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical about how a plunger could be awesome. I mean, it’s a plunger – as long as it unplugs, isn’t that enough? Actually no. No it isn’t. Because what you want is a plunger that unplugs and doesn’t make a mess. You want one that doesn’t make you squirm or make you go “eww” every time you think about touching it. You actually want the new Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger – an innovative new plunger that actually repels water, helping to make your plunging experience a little more “ewww”-free.

    Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger

Before we begin, let’s take a look at this video, demonstrating the wonders of the Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger:

Now, the big question – does it really work like you see it in the video? Absolutely. I actually did my own home test with the Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger and another plunger I already had. Instead of a clear bucket of water, I added a few drops of green food dye to the toilet. Then I plunged both plungers in – one, two, three. Then I took them out and hit them on the edge of the toilet (to shake off any excess water) – one, two three. Then I placed them one two clean, white paper towels to see what water was left. The results:

(“Old” plunger results on the left, Rubbermaid Clean & Dry on the right)

What was amazing to me was that you could actually see the water being repelled. It didn’t stick or beat, it looked smoother than water of a duck’s back (so to speak.) The water just slid off the plunger like it was a sheet. And there was ZERO, I repeat ZERO dampness on the paper towel. Not even a single drop of water.

    Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger

I even had to call over some friends to look at the Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger in action. We were all thoroughly impressed.

So now’s the moment of truth. If you have to use the plunger, do you want a plunger that drips? Or one that doesn’t?

The Rubbermaid Clean & Dry Plunger is available in the cleaning or plumbing aisle in a store near you. You can also purchase it online from Rubbermaid.com.

I never needed a plunger until we moved into our current home, and for some reason, even the smallest thing requires the use of a plunger (i.d. a small wad of toilet paper you’ve used to wipe your child’s nose).
