I’ve been searching for a steam mop for awhile. I’ve watched the infomercials – I see what the power of steam can do. But I wanted a steam cleaner that could handle tile, wood, and anything else that I wanted to clean – one that was easy to use and didn’t require a lot of different parts or accessories to use. I had my steam mop eureka moment with the Black & Decker Steam Mop.

About the Black & Decker Steam Mop

Black & Decker Steam Mop

Introducing the Black & Decker Steam-Mop with intuitive SmartSelect™ Technology. With SmartSelect™ Technology, simply turn the dial to the specific floor type –hardwood/laminate, tile/ vinyl, or stone/marble – and the mop automatically releases the right amount of steam. SmartSelect helps to assure a thorough yet delicate cleaning on all sealed hard floors and is even safe on sealed hardwoods.

The Review

To say I was giddy when I received the Black & Decker Steam Mop would be an understatement. I was jumping around like a little kid Christmas morning. Finally! I had my hands on a steam mop that would get my floors clean without having to lug buckets of soapy water around.

The Black & Decker Steam Mop can quickly be assembled out of the box in a matter of minutes. Just connect the handle to the water tank which connects to the steam head and you’re done. The Black & Decker Steam Mop also comes with two Micro-fiber cleaning pads, a resting mat, and a water cup which conveniently attaches to the handle tube.

Black & Decker Steam Mop

To use the Steam Mop, attach one of the micro-fiber cleaning pads to the steam head. Make sure you apply some pressure and move it around a little while pressing to make sure the velcro hooks grab securely. Next, fill the included water cup with ordinary tap water and pour into the water tank. The water tank can hold 16.9 oz of water (which is about two cup fulls) and has a clearly marked fill line so you know not to overfill. With just a single tank of water, you can clean your floors for up to 25 minutes. I found that I didn’t need nearly that much water or that much time.

Once the water is in the tank, close the cap to the tank. Make sure the cap is on securely otherwise the steam won’t come out. Plug-in the Steam Mop and hit the power button. A red light in the reservoir will turn on, letting you know that the mop is heating up the water. In 15 seconds or less, the light will switch to blue, letting you know that you are ready to clean!

Black & Decker Steam MopTo start the flow of steam, you need to angle the Steam Mop; it won’t emit steam while it is vertical (a nice safety feature.) After you angle the handle, you’ll hear a buzzing sound (which sounds like a pump motor) and shortly after the buzzing, you’ll see the steam begin to flow out of the Steam Mop. The Steam Mop has three settings depending on which type of floor you’re cleaning – Wood-Laminate, Stone-Marble, and Tiles-Vinyl. Simply turn the SmartSelect dial to the floor you are cleaning and it will automatically release just the right amount of steam to clean that floor.

Black & Decker Steam MopI love that using steam, the Steam Mop can kill 99.9% of bacteria, including E.Coli and Salmonella. Since it’s cleaning with water, you don’t have to worry about any harsh or dangerous chemical residues that could get left behind on floors. (That’s especially important if you have pets or little ones that spend more time crawling than walking.)

As the steam comes out of the mop, you can easily glide the Steam Mope across the floors. It’s light-weight and surprisingly maneuverable. It has a swivel head that easily twists and turns so you can mop those hard to reach places. A long 23 ft cord allows you to clean an entire room without having to relocate your plug. I was even able to clean both the kitchen floor and the bathroom floor without unplugging!

If you need to step away from the Steam Mop in the middle of cleaning, make sure you rest the mop on the included resting mat. The micro-fiber cleaning pads will be hot, so placing it on the resting mat will protect your floors (and your mop.)

The micro-fiber cleaning pads do a great job picking up dirt and dust that other cleaning products can leave behind. Once you’re done cleaning, wait for the pads to cool, and then step on the pad tag for a no-hands pad removal. You can toss the micro-fiber cleaning pads into the laundry for re-use later – no refills required! You can easily store the Black & Decker Steam Mop in a cleaning closet, or hit the release button to remove the handle for more compact storage.

Black & Decker Steam Mop

Without a doubt, the Black & Decker Steam Mop is one of my favorite cleaning tools. I actually look forward to cleaning my floors with it (because it’s just THAT cool.) If you would like to utilize steam cleaning to clean your wood, tile, stone or vinyl sealed floors, I definitely recommend the Black & Decker Steam Mop. You can pick up a Black & Decker Steam Mop for your home from select stores near you and online at Black & Decker or through Amazon.com for just $66.89.
