The sprinklers were flushed today. For those of you who don’t know, if you live in areas that get very, very cold, you have to flush out your underground sprinklers before the ground freezers. Otherwise, when the cold temperatures come, any water that’s left in the sprinklers could freeze and cause the pipes to burst. When the sprinkler company called to say that they were coming to flush our sprinklers, I knew that meant the cold weather was coming.
Just because it’s getting cold out doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. We decided to welcome the cooler weather with a fall-themed party. This was the perfect chance for everyone to get together before the snow hits, enjoy a cup of hot cider and some tasty treats.

Throwing a festive fall party can be very easy. I had some fall-theme decorations on hand, but you can also create your own fall decorations as a fun activity with the kids.
- Pine cones, glue, and some glitter can instantly turn into a decorative tablepiece.
- We decided to have some fun and make some Chocolate Peanut Butter Acorns using HERSHEY’S KISSES. This is an easy treat to make that takes just three ingredients and is very kid-friendly to make.

- As another fall treat I made some fall-colored sugar cookies. You can make any cookie “in season” by simply changing the colors of the sprinkles you use to top!
As a drink, I added some apple juice, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and whole all spice to a slow cooker and set it on low. Adding all of the spice infuses a great fall flavor into the apple cider. This is the type of drink everyone will want to keep drinking, holding their hands tightly around their mugs, feeling the warmth of the cider.

Of course, there’s no way I could have a party without just a little bit of chocolate…or a lot bit. I filled a bowl with KIT KAT BARS and some of the leftover HERSHEY’S KISSES. This was a great sweet treat that was very popular with those of us who may have an affinity for chocolate.

As the leaves gradually turn from green to red, even here in the Rocky Mountains, it truly is a beautiful time. And it’s even more enjoyable when you’re able to spend that time with friends and family.
