One of the things I really like about the local IHOP is that I can grab a tasty breakfast – all day, every day. It’s not as crowded as some of the other spots I’ve been to and they always have a variety of tasty breakfast items to choose from. My last discovery was their Sweet Strawberry Pancakes. This time, I was to give the new IHOP hand-crafted Griddle Melts a try.
Introducing IHOP Hand-Crafted Griddle Melts
The concept of IHOP’s new Griddle Melts is both simple and brilliant; take a delicious omelet, put it between some artisan sourdough bread, and enjoy. There are three varieties of IHOP Griddle Melts – Spinach, Roasted Pepper & Cheese, Western, and Ham & Egg Melt. IHOP Griddle Melts are available in both full-size and half size portions, and come with a choice of side dish – either seasonal fruit, hash browns, or french fries.
IHOP Griddle Melts Varieties
- Spinach, Roasted Pepper & Cheese – Sauteed spinach in a fluffy egg omelet topped with roasted red peppers, onions, melted Provolone, Parmesan and pepper Jack cheese on grilled artisan sourdough bread.
- Western – Smoked ham and sauteed peppers and onions in a classic omelet, topped with sliced ham, melted American cheese and served on grilled artisan sourdough bread.
- Ham & Egg Melt – Sliced ham and melted Swiss and American cheeses over a fluffy egg omelet and served on grilled artisan sourdough bread.
I waffled between the Western and Ham & Egg Melt Griddle Melts, and finally decided to give the IHOP Ham & Egg Melt Griddle melt a go. We ordered our breakfast and a few minutes later, the Griddle Melt was in front of me, ready to be eaten.
The IHOP Ham & Egg Melt Griddle Melts is probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. The artisan sourdough bread was buttered and grilled to crispy perfection. They were not at all stingy with the ham, with layers and layers of warm ham, along with the egg omelet (which was totally fluffy – as advertised), between the two types of melted cheese. I loved the fun twist of Swiss cheese on the sandwich.
The full-sized portion is definitely hearty. I don’t know where they found a sourdough loaf this large, but each half of the Griddle Melt was probably about the size of a regular sandwich, and with all of the cheese, omelet, and ham, it was at least 2 inches thick. I couldn’t even make it through half a sandwich before I got full. We took the left overs home and heated them up in the oven the next day for another tasty breakfast.
If you would like to give the new Griddle Melts a try, you can find them at your local IHOP. Make sure you bring your appetite!
