As a blogger, I wear many hats – from writer to photographer to designer and coder. While I went to school for a few of these skill sets, times have changed since 2001. Technology is changing and it’s important for me to stay up-to-date on whatever I can. Sure, there are $2,000 classes you can take for a day of intensive learning for one thing or another. But another, more affordable and more flexible option is a subscription to lynda.com.
I’ve known and used lynda.com for the past several years, both personally and professionally, as a great way to brush up and learn new skills and technologies, ranging from HTML5 to photography tips. If you want to dig into Photoshop 6 or just have an intro to stylesheets, lynda.com has a serious of video training tutorials that can benefit both new and advanced bloggers alike. Beyond that, lynda.com also offers training on different website and social media platforms, such as Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter.

Training with lynda.com is very easy. Simply browse for the skill, company, or software you want to train in and add it to your training library. Training modules usually have a table of contents that allows you to view all the training within that series. You can choose which videos you want to watch, or watch all of them. If you happen to find a video instructor you favor, you can watch all of their videos. Lynda tracks which training videos you’ve viewed so you can monitor your progress. Since it’s all online and available whenever you need, you can train at your own pace.
I’ve already added several HTML5 videos to my training queue and am enjoying the videos I’ve watched. Stay tuned for our next post where we’ll delve more into the actual training sessions!
