The Easter Bunny is coming. In a few short weeks, the only mammal to lay eggs (other than the platypus) will travel from house to house, hiding his brightly colored eggs in various places around yards or inside homes for children to find Easter Sunday (or for adults to find a few weeks after Easter Sunday when there’s an odd smell coming from behind the couch.) But sometimes the Easter Bunny gets a little tired, and needs a little help to decorate his (or is it her?) eggs. Or sometimes the Easter Bunny doesn’t visit a certain house because Fido has a loud bark. In instances like these, PAAS Easter Egg Decorating Kits can come to the rescue!
First invented by William Townley in Newark, New Jersey, PAAS has been providing Easter egg dyes for over 130 years and has sold over 10 million egg decorating kits. This year, they are introducing five new varieties of egg decorating kits to help bring even more festivity to egg decorating.

Neon: Add pops of bright color to your basket with fun stickers and glitter pen.
Mini Monsters: Get silly and crazy with the PAAS Mini Monsters kit! Dress eggs with string, face stickers and fuzzy hair to create your favorite monster character.
Egg-Quarium: Take a dip under the sea with PAAS Egg-Quarium. Decorate eggs to look like fish, underwater treasures, scuba divers and more!
Coloring Creations: Just like a coloring book, kids can egg-spress their creativity by decorating their own stickers and egg stands.
Build-a-Basket: This kit not only provides all the materials needed to embellish eggs, but also includes two Easter baskets that can be personalized with festive stickers and crayons.
The PAAS egg decorating kits include virtually everything you need to decorate eggs, save the eggs and the cups to put the dye in. Each variety comes with its own unique set of egg decorating tools – from fuzzy monster hair to fish eyeball stickers. Each kit also includes six color egg dyes, an egg dipper, and egg stands (which are cut from the sides of the boxes) for you to rest your eggs on after decorating.
Here’s a shot of the contents of the PAAS Coloring Creations kit which included crayons and stickers you can color in yourself and the PAAS Mini Monsters kit which had fuzzy monster hair, monster face stickers, glue and pipe cleaners (cat not included.)

The back of each box has useful instructions for decorating the eggs, starting with the egg dye. Using different liquids when you dissolve the dyes will determine how colorful your eggs are. I decided to brave the smell and went with vinegar to try to get my eggs brightly colored. I loved how the little dye tablets fizzed once they were dropped into the vinegar. After they fully dissolved in 3 tablespoons of vinegar, I added 1/2 cup of water and my dyes were ready for eggs. The longer you leave your egg in the dye, the more colorful the egg will be when it comes out, so I left my eggs in for a few minutes. I periodically tried to dunk them under the dye so the bottoms would get more color. After pulling out the eggs and letting them dry, they were ready for decorating!
It’s quite a bit of fun selecting the stickers or sticking on eyes, since the stickers sheets that they give have so many options. The pipe cleaners and monster hair really give the opportunity to make eggs stand out from the other eggs (in case you’re entering an egg decorating beauty pageant or something.) You can see on the fishes where I used their “magic” crayon to prevent dyeing in certain areas. One other convenient thing about the PAAS Mini Monsters Egg Decorating kit was that you could use the hair to cover up any unsightly white cracks that may have shown during the dying process. You can still see some of the dye cracks on the orange monster’s face, but do you see any on his head? Nope!

PAAS’s new Egg Decorating kits are lots of fun and can produce lots of egg-citing (yes, yes – it’s cheesy but it had to be done!) entertainment while the kids decorate their eggs. They are available in grocery and drug stores nationwide and retail for $2.99-$3.99. For more information about PAAS, please visit their website at www.paaseastereggs.com.
