diamond_gussetWhy the world has decided that it’s in-fashion for women to wear unbelievably tight, low-rise, skinny jeans I have no idea. First off, only models look good in them (and I’m certainly not a model) and secondly, they’re not comfortable! They squeeze areas that don’t like to be squeeze with every movement – especially if you’re sitting down (which I like to do when working or riding the Metro.) And heaven forbid you drop something and have to pick it up, or you’ll flash the entire world your backside – or at least the top part of your underwear. Overall, I am anti-tight jeans. If I want to look good, I’ll put on some mascara or actually DO something with my hair.

But the problem with the rest of the world embracing this decidedly uncomfortable fashion is that all of the stores have embraced it to, making it very difficult to find jeans to wear if you’re trying to be modest and conservative. I was very excited to learn about Diamond Gusset Jeans. What makes Diamond Gusset Jeans different? In addition to being a 100% American-made company, their jeans also have this:

gusset

This is a “gusset” or a diamond shaped piece of extra jeans cloth that is sewn in the…um…crotch area. So normally when the front and the back of the jeans come together and are sewn directly to each other between the legs, instead they get sewn to the gusset. By utilizing gusseted construction, these jeans are supposed to “redistribute [stress] around the crotch area, allowing greater freedom of movement, comfort and strength.”

Once I saw what was actually different about the jeans, it was time to try them out. First up, the man tester. Here’s a front and back photo of the fit of his jeans.

Man tester is wearing Regular Fit Diamond Gusset Jeans in Pre-wash. After first putting them on, man tester came down the stairs smiling and proceeded to do a few squats to see how comfortable these jeans actually are. His comments: “These jeans are amazingly soft for denim. No matter which way I move or bend, the jeans move with my body. They don’t pull at the crotch when I move. Everything is a plus. These jeans are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn.”

Next up are the women’s jeans. I tried the Women’s Regular Fit in Stonewashed. I tried them on after Man tester shared his comments, so I was curious to see what I thought as well. First, these jeans ARE very soft. Which in my opinion, jeans should be since they’re made of 100% cotton. It feels like you’re putting on a slightly heavier pair of cotton pants (or is it pant for singular?) and it doesn’t scratch or rub the wrong way. I LOVE that these aren’t butt-huggers. Personally, I don’t like super tight jeans around my bum, so I like that the jeans fit around the waist perfectly and still left room around my butt. This also means that when you’re sitting down, there isn’t any (camel-toe) or uncomfortable pulling around those delicate areas. I’m not a big fan of showing pictures of my bottom half, but since Man tester did, here are mine:

One thing I did notice is that the gusset seems to shape the jeans away from your crotch area, and in doing so, you might “feel” the fabric on your thigh. It isn’t uncomfortable, it’s just different and is something you’ll quickly get used to and forget about.

If you want to try out these comfortable jeans for yourself, they are available in a variety of sizes, cuts and washes at www.gussetclothing.com. All of the jeans are very reasonably priced, starting as low as $43.95. The Men’s Relaxed Fit Boot Leg is currently on sale for $40.75.

I think it’s important to note that they work to actually give you the exact size you order. You know how at the department stores, a specific size of jeans actually varies? I’ve tried on pairs of jeans that were all labeled the same size, but all fit differently around the waist. When ordering my sizes with Diamond Gusset Jeans, I noticed that they gave me instructions for measuring and told me if I’m between sizes, to order a size down and leave a note so they’ll find and hand-measure a pair to find ones that are exactly what I need.

In my former life, I worked in a Dream Dinners meal assembly kitchen. Every Tuesday, our big shipment of food would come in, and several us would be in the back kitchen diligently packaging and scooping food into portion bags or cups. It was a lot of food and took a lot of time. One…

I don’t consider myself a healthy eater. My idea of “quick” is to throw a frozen pizza in the oven. Neither of these habits is a particularly good thing, so I was really looking forward to trying the new Quick & Healthy Cookbooks by award winning author and registered dietitian, Brenda J. Ponichtera. I wanted…
