The WiC Chicks (or Chucks) Review Program)
  • virgin-galactic-spaceshiptwoI once read an article about the costs of a raising a child to adulthood. For middle-income families, they can spend $235,000 raising a child from birth to age 17. If you’re sending the kid to college, you can add in several thousand more, depending on the college. As if that six-digit number didn’t put it enough into perspective, if you’re raising two kids, you’ll spend almost half a million dollars. For $235,000, you could buy almost 10 Prius Hybrids. $235,000 will buy you 589 iPad 2s. For “just” $200,000, you can fly to outer space.

Another interesting tidbit. Out of all the money you spend raising a child, from food to clothes to bikes to tuition, you name it….out of alllll those expenses, you spend about $2,500 in diapers alone. Considering that you likely buy thousands of products for your child during their lifetime, that’s a huge number to spend on just one thing.

Whenever I know I’ll be spending a lot of money on something, I’ll do my best to get creative and find ways to get something back when I have to buy it. Whether it’s waiting for a BOGO deal, using coupons, and/or getting cash back, there are lots of ways we can get a little something – anything – to help ease the costs of what we have to buy.
