In part two of my hunt, I want to address the issue of water. Water is a critical aspect to keep humans alive – let alone healthy. Water makes up about 60% of our body mass and is important to help flush out toxins and carry nutrients. If we don’t drink enough water, then our body won’t be able to perform to the best of its capabilities and may lead to low energy and tiredness. As part of my effort to be healthier, I’ve decided to try to drink the recommend 64 ounces of water per day ( that’s 8 cups of 8 ounces or approximately 1.9 liters.) That’s a whole lot of drinking!
One of the challenges that I’ll need to overcome is sheer laziness of getting a glass of water. It’s one thing to fill my glass once, it’s another to have to go and fill my glass 8 times. It just seems like it’s a lot of running back and forth to the fridge. Knowing myself, I also acknowledge that when I’m at work in the midst of a design, the last thing I’m going to do is break my flow to go fill up my water bottle. My current work water bottle is an 16 ounce bottle, so I’ll need to drink that at least four full times to get the daily recommended water intake, which again seems like a lot of trips to the break room to fill it up. My solution? Get a bigger water bottle! I figure if I can get two larger water bottles – one for work and one for home, then I can just focus on finishing each bottle each day.
Once I decided on an action plan, I started searching for the right water bottle. There are so many things to consider – size, cost, appearance, material (plastic or metal), convenience (is it dishwasher safe) and mouth size. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of good choices, but I still haven’t pulled the trigger on any one of them.
Material | DW safe? | Size | Mouth | Price | |
|
Plastic | Yes | 1.0 L | Bite Valve | $11.50 |
|
Stainless Steel | “friendly” | 40 ounces (~1.2 L) | Loop Cap/Sports Cap | $18.83 (Pink color) |
|
Plastic | Yes, Top Rack | 0.75 L | Flip Cap | $25.50 (Orchid Pink) |
|
Plastic | No | 1.0 L | Wide Mouth | $10.78 (Slate Blue) |
|
Aluminum | Yes | 1.0 L | Narrow Mouth | $19.96 (Reflex Blue) |
After making this chart, I think I’ve narrowed it down to either the CamelBak or the Klean Kanteen, although the KorONE is a very pretty bottle. I guess the biggest choice I have to make is if I want to go stainless steel or plastic. The metal may be more durable, but I bet it can be dented, while the plastic is dishwasher safe. The CamelBak comes in lots of different colors other than blue, but I’m not sure how much I’ll like that bite valve. I don’t necessarily want to have to use my hands to pull up the valve every time I drink from the bottle. Which makes the Nalgene bottle kind of nice – the fact that the screw on top full covers where your mouth goes. Then of course I could always design my own Sigg on Cafepress, which would be totally epic. Ack. Decisions decision.
I found a 3 pk of 24oz Contigo brand at my local Costco for a great price but they seem to come and go in and out of stock. Amazon has them for about $6 more (+shipping?). I got the Aqua, Raspberry, & Lime pack. They auto seal which is nice because no more spills! I am drinking way more water and have not only cut down on diet soda, I stopped buying it!

Oh! I'll definitely check these out. Thx for the tip.
Do you know if these are dishwasher safe?
I didn't realize they used the Nalgene ones on the Biggest Loser. I believe the three plastic ones I'm looking at are all BPA free.
