In today’s fast-paced modern world, even those with an unshakable faith in God can find themselves unknowingly start to drift away. Although we still believe, we spend less time reflecting on the words of Jesus and more time reflecting on how we’re going to get that report in on time or pay for the kids’ education. When things of the world start to seem too much, it can be good to take a step back and take steps to renew one’s faith. Here are some fantastic ways to do that:
Read the Bible
You might have read it a million times already, but reading The Bible is, of course, one of the most effective ways of renewing your faith. Even if you just read one of your favorite passages every night, you’ll start to feel that same dedication and devotion you did the first time and your faith will begin to get stronger, as will its practice.
Get More Involved in the Church
Another great way to renew your faith is to get more involved in the church you attend. Instead of just turning up for Sunday services, go to a mid-week service or two, attend a Bible Study, get involved in the community projects and just try to help out where you can. Not only will your faith become even stronger, but you’ll get to know some pretty great people, and do a lot to help others in the process, too.
Monitor Your Media Usage
If you spend a lot of time listening to music, watching TV and reading books, it might be a good idea to scale back. Instead of watching drama-filled or violent shows, spend more time watching and listening to media that promotes the kind of values that Christ Himself promoted in his time. The more wholesome your time is spent, the more you’ll be able to see God in everything.
Go On A Retreat
Going on a retreat to one of the many Christian retreat centers scattered around the country can not only renew your faith but bring yourself closer to God. Not only will you be in an environment that has been specifically set up for spiritual growth, but you’ll also be surrounded by people who have the same values and goals as you. You’re sure to have a lot of fun too because most of these retreat centers are as much about participating in fun activities as they are in prayer.
Spend More Time in Fellowship
Even if you can’t get to a retreat, spending more time fellowshipping with others will do you the world of good. You’ll see how they live their lives and what their faith means to them and it will make you think more about how you practice your faith from day to day.
I hope this helps you to put your faith back at the forefront of your life. If you don’t think you need to renew your faith, still take a moment to consider whether you might. Dedicating more time to God will always have a positive impact on your life.
This is a great time of year to get involved in church missions. We’ll be packing our Giving Boxes, filled with all of the non-perishable food items needed for Thanksgiving dinner, on Saturday; they’ll be distributed with turkeys on Monday. 1000 boxes with enough food to make 10,000 individual meals.
Lots more to do before Christmas, too.
That’s amazing! Lots of bellies being filled and love being shared.
