If you want to give your children the best start in life, it’s important to start as soon as possible. While you may think that it’s about getting them the right education, in fact, raising smart kids starts as soon as they are born! But it’s not just about making sure they have academic smarts, it’s about making sure that you can give your children the best start in life by providing a variety of skills, academic and in life.

Social Skills
There is a positive correlation between children’s social skills during kindergarten, and their success in early adulthood. While many Christian preschools will provide a variety of supportive environments, it’s important for you to teach your children the importance of resolving issues, learning to share, listening to others without interrupting, and helping out. The great thing is that you can do a lot of these at home.
Limiting Their Screen Time
It’s something that everybody is more than aware of, but how often do you keep your children away from the screen for a long period of time? If there’s one main reason you should keep your children away from the screen, it can contribute to behavioural issues. In addition, screen time has been linked with irregular sleep patterns and obesity in childhood. While you can limit your child’s screen time, we all know how important it is to give ourselves a break. You could help them engage with screen time in a more proactive way to turn screen time into something more productive, such as encouraging them to learn computer skills like programming or production.
Remember to Not Over Protect
Every parent can feel that sometimes it’s easier to over protect them to let our child learn there are mistakes. We can all suffer from being what they call a “helicopter parent.” And if we rush in and help our children to solve a problem, it can be detrimental in their abilities to develop resilience. Every child needs to learn how to solve problems themselves. We may not necessarily know the answers, and this is why it’s a good idea, if there are problems, that you can solve them together, but let your child take the lead. When there is the ability to solve problems, it’s as much about as learning to take a step back as well.
Create a Loving and Peaceful Home
It sounds simple, but children who live in families with many conflicts can struggle later in life. It’s important to create a loving and supportive environment to make sure that your children are healthy. This is why when we have any disagreements with our spouse, we need to learn how to model effective and fair debate. When also focusing on resolving conflicts, implementing boundaries rather than leaving them open-ended sends the right message to our children.
It’s about making sure that while your children will learn a lot of these things in school, we’ve got to remember we model a lot of how our children react to the world before they start.
