I used to be a dog person. Growing up, we had two dogs (Max 1 and Max 2) and I loved them as much as any little girl could love her dogs. Being just as loyal to my dogs as they were to me, I was anti-cat. “Cats,” I thought, “They aren’t affectionate enough and are too independent.” And vehemently poo-pooed cats the way little kids turn up their noses at vegetables.
Flash forward 10 years when I’m in college and live in an apartment that doesn’t allow dogs. I decided to head down to the local humane society and I pick up my first cat – a lovely black and white tuxedo with a tiny little lump on her head (later to be named Milano…as in mint milano cookies.) I guess loyalty can be fickle at times because the moment she rubbed up against my fingers from behind the bars of her little cage, I became a cat person.
Years later, I still opt for cats over dogs – although it might be a lifestyle choice for now. I’m too busy (or lazy) to walk a dog every day to do his doodie, and part of me just feels guilty if I have a dog cooped up in the house all day since I don’t have a yard. Once I get an actual house, one with a laaaaaarge yard where I won’t notice piles of poop then I might consider getting a dog – either a beagle, retriever (Golden or Labrador), German Shepherd or a mutt.
If you enjoy debating dogs versus cats, you should keep your eyes out for the upcoming Blu-ray release of Cats and Dogs: Things are Going to Get Hairy!, available starting July 20, 2010. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the movie when it first came out, here’s a quick reminder:
They’re cunning. They’re stealthy. They’re waging a top-secret, ultra-high-tech struggle for global domination right under our noses. They’re…Cats & Dogs! Witness this epic “tail” of what happens when an eccentric professor (Jeff Goldblum) makes a discovery that could tip the age-old balance of pet power. Now an inexperienced young beagle pup (voiced by Tobey Maguire) will undertake the ultimate mission impawsible: saving humankind from total catastrophe! Voices of Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Jon Lovitz, Charlton Heston and Sean Hayes are also featured.
For more information about Cats and Dogs: Things are Going to Get Hairy! and to see other Warner Bros. Blu-ray DVDs, you can check out the official site.

I am definitely a cat person! We had a “zoo” when we were kids. We had three dogs, two cats, 10 finches, a guinea pig, two large talking parrots, and tropical fish. Now that I have my own home I prefer cats because they take care of themselves. Dogs are loyal but too much maintenance for me right now with three kids (11, 4, and 2). I like cats bipolar attitudes…lovable one minute, biting at you the next. They're crazy!! 🙂

I'm a dog person, but I have a little love for at least every animal 🙂
With 2 dogs and 2 cats at our house—I think I like them equally.
I am more a cat person than dog only because they are so much easier to take care of. We have a cat now but did have a dog years ago. Thanks.
Although I like dogs, I am definitely a cat person. Dogs require too much work. Cats, or at least my two cats, are so independent they are much easier to care for. Thank you for the great give-away.
I'm a dog person but that's only because I'm deathly allergic to cats. 🙁

I LOVE BOTH CATS AND DOGS! 🙂
I used to be solely a cat person and then I got my little dog Speedy (my avatar!) that is the love of my life so now I'm a 'little dog' person forever and always! Personally I think little dogs are almost a combo of a cat and a dog, the best of both worlds!
