All cheese is not created equal. Some cheeses are processed with chemical ingredients, others are high in fat, and for some people (particularly Asians) most cheeses can’t be enjoyed due to lactose intolerance. Chavrie ‘s all natural goat cheese is one option for people who are looking for a healthier cheese and for those whose tummies don’t like cow’s milk.
About Chavrie Goat Cheese

The Review
Did you know that goat cheese has 30% less fat and cholesterol than most cow’s milk cheeses? I didn’t. I also didn’t know that it has less fat than sour cream and less cholesterol than cream cheese. Goat cheese is also easier to digest for the lactose intolerant and has half the calories per ounce than other cheeses. That’s pretty impressive for a cheese that only has two ingredients in their cheese pyramid – goat’s milk and salt.
Chavrie goat cheese comes in two forms – the Chavrie Pyramids or Chavrie Logs. WiC Chick Denise helped to put both of these cheese to the test to see how these cheeses measure up. I mean, it’s one thing to be healthier, but you still want it to taste good, right? Denise went to her local Safeway and picked up the Chavrie Original Pyramid and the Herb Flavored Chavrie log. Just so you know, Chavrie recommends that you do not freeze these cheeses, so make sure you pick them up when you’ll be able to enjoy them within a week or so.
If you recall, I did a review of the Herb Flavored Chavrie Log last year and thought that the cheese flavor was on the stronger side for me. Denise also decided to serve the log with crackers but found the flavor to be more subtle. She was clearly able to detect the herb flavor of the log with its mixture of herbs and that thought the cheese tasted great with all of the crackers ate the cheese with. It just goes to show how I’m still leveling up my cheese tasting skills. 🙂 If you’re looking to use the Chavrie log as a cracker spread or for dipping, Denise recommends that you let the log sit out a little to let it soften. She also had a great idea for an appetizer – simply spread the Chavrie onto a flour tortilla, roll up the tortilla and then slice into wheels. Simple and easy yet oh so tasty.
Next up was the Chavrie Pyramid. One nice perk with the pyramid is that you can use the lid to serve the cheese (which means one less dirty dish -woot!) Denise used the Chavrie to top her salad and her baked potato. The cheese is smooth but a little thick, so you’ll be shaking the spoon a little bit to get the cheese onto your plate. She found that the Chavrie goat cheese had a mild, tangy taste that left a clean aftertaste.
Great for entertaining or for wine tastings, Chavrie goat cheese is a cheese option you should keep on your menu. It’s a healthier alternative to many other cheeses while bringing an extra bit of flavor and variety to your meals or appetizers.
