Don’t you wish that as adults, we still had recess? Imagine, 30 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon where we are absolutely encouraged to go outside to have fun. Recess is even more important for kids, since it provides the essential time needed to help with their physical development and overall health. Unfortunately, budget cuts and other issues have resulted in the cut-back of an average of 8 hours of recess a week and have eliminated recess completely at some schools. This is not cool.
Dannon Danimals is committed to childhood health and wellness, which starts with good nutrition, such as the Dannon Danimals on-the-go dariy drinks and low-fat yogurts, along with an active lifestyle. To help our kids stay active at their school, Danimals is launching a national “Rally for Recess” initiative to help get or kids moving again. “Rally for Recess” is designed to help raise public awareness of the disappearance of physical activity for many kids. Schools, parents, and kids can help their local school win a $20,000 playground makeover by entering special codes found on Danimals packaging, through February 8, 2012.
Help your school and your kids by joining the Dannon Danimals Rally for Recess! You can help spread the word by sharing this information on Facebook or Twitter:

my daughter gets 15 minutes recess in the morning and a 40 minute lunch time. She is five and it isn’t enough in my opinion. I am particularly bothered by the fact that she gets 2 1 hour PE classes a week. At her age we had an hour every day, an hour for lunch and a morning and afternoon recess of 15 minutes. I try to get her into exercise activities in the afternoon after school but I wish that was on top of more exercise at school instead of trying to make up for not enough moving around in school hours. Whatever happened to a healthy mind IN A HEALTHY BODY? I see so many obese children , it makes me sad. My daughter isn’t obese but she is creating habits for a lifetime and those habits seem to involve a lot of sitting on her bottom currently- not by her choice or mine. 🙁

Recess was a great break from the classroom to take in a game of kickball, throw some hoops or climb the jungle gym.
