I think few people would question the sacrifice that our country’s military and service men and women make as they serve our country. For the month of June, Dollar General and Procter & Gamble are honoring and thanking these brave men and women as part of the Dollar General Every Day Heroes program.
Dollar General Every Day Hero – Sparky Edwards
This month, Dollar General is honoring Every Day Hero Sparky Edwards, a decorated veteran who served in South Korea and Iraq. Once an at-risk child himself, Sparky keeps himself busy during retirement, volunteering with organizations working with at-risk youth and being a mentor in the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program in Northern Virginia.
After joining the Thunderbird Youth Academy, Sparky turned his life around, earning a GED and then entering the military. After his service, Sparky became a business owner and will soon receive his Ph.D.
“I went from being on track for a jail cell to being a decorated war veteran, business owner, former senior federal government employee and soon-to-be Dr. Sparky D. Edwards,” Edwards said.
His commitment to the community, his military service, and his example of overcoming adversity are just a few of the reasons Sparky Edwards is this month’s Dollar General Every Day Hero.
