The home is our palace, our refuge, our sanctuary. It is where we raise our family, relax in the evenings and spend most of our time when we aren’t at work. When you spend so much time in one place, it’s common to want our homes to truly reflect who we are and what we love in life.
Decorating is one of the great pleasures of being a homeowner. You can change the whole layout of your house, choose the colors of the walls and make it fit your personality. Decorating doesn’t have to be a huge task or expensive though. In fact, sometimes it’s the smallest of changes which can make a huge impact on your home and its style. Today we are going to take a look at some of the different ways you can make small home decor changes that will have a big impact on your home.
Musical Chairs
We’re not talking about making a pile of chairs in the room and playing that all classic game. 🙂 However the idea of rearranging your furniture within the current room is something which can change the entire look of your room and make it feel brand new again. If you have always had the sofa against the back wall: move it to the side. Is the TV in the corner of the room on a stand? Mount it on the wall. You don’t have to go out and buy a ton of new items to make a big impact in how your home looks and feels. Simply swap around what’s already there and it will feel fresh and new with minimal effort on your part.
Style the Fireplace
Remember to switch up the style you have on your fireplace every season. While the fireplace is a small part of the home, it’s often the focal point of the room. It can make a huge difference to the overall feel of your home and will invoke the feeling of coziness or that summer vibe. Some examples of the different decorations you could do are:
- Spring: Easter eggs, daffodils, fresh and flowery candles, succulents
- Summer: palm leaf garland, tropical umbrellas, colorful flowers
- Autumn: autumn leaf garland, mini pumpkins, plenty of fall color
- Winter: fairy lights, holly garland, scented candles, tinsel
These changes will bring your home in line with each season and can, in turn, make your home feel like a seasonal paradise all year long. It can be fun to play with new themes or colors and mix things up from time to time.
Soft Furnishings
If you are getting sick of your sofa or chairs but you can’t justify going out to buy new ones, you can cover them with a plush throw and add some soft furnishings like brightly colored cushions to make the room feel fresh and vibrant, and inject some life into your tired furniture once more.
Plants
The best way to make a house feel immediately like a home is to add some life to the room. Succulents such as aloe vera are low maintenance and they add an air of exotic to your home. You could also opt to have a bouquet of fresh flowers in your home at all times, or simply to buy a huge houseplant which can sit in the corner of your room. The green will lift your design and the space will feel much more alive and fresh.
Change Your Photos
We as humans are sentimental creatures, and we love to have photos around our home to remind us of fun holidays, family members and friends. However, you may not think of changing these photos every so often to bring a new element of color to the room. Take some time this weekend to either take some updating photos or choose some that you love and get them printed. Different photos can make a huge difference to the way your home looks and feels.
Paint it up
The easiest way to change the whole scene of your home is to change the color on the walls. If you’ve had the same plum color on the walls for years, why not change to a pastel grey or a vibrant green? If you have neutral coloured furniture then you can really get creative with this part of your decorating and have some fun with it. And your home will look like a totally different place by the time you are done with it!
Restyle The Shelves
If you are bored of looking at the same thing day in day out, why not shift things around on your shelves a little bit? If the plant used to be on the bottom shelf, move it to the top. If you have gotten sick of the shelving altogether, look online somewhere like Wisteria’s deals and buy some fresh furniture for your room. Just one change can make a difference.
Change up the coffee table
Just like your fireplace, the coffee table can be a great feature in your home if you take some time to style it. Adding some tealights, a fruit bowl, magazines and pretty coasters can make all the difference. And you can change this as many times as you want throughout the year too.
Move the pillows around
Pillows and cushions are one of the easiest ways to instantly bring some life, inject color and enhance the homey feel of your house. To really make a change in your home, swap around your cushions every so often. What was in the bedroom can come downstairs and vice versa. It will bring a fun new look to your home without having to spend a single penny.
Fill those nooks and crannies
If you have one corner of the room which has nothing in it and seems to have no purpose: find something to put there. You could put a small table with a plant on top, a full sized plant or even a little chair. Filling an unused space can make the world of difference.
With these easy home decor changes, you can quickly spruce up the style of your home – reviving its look and feel and making it feel like home again.
