Congratulations on getting engaged! The first step has been completed and you and your partner have considered and accepted why you want to wed and share the rest of your lives together, so now is the time to consider actually planning the wedding.

Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming at times, and although you have the option to hire someone, this isn’t everyone’s choice. Whether your budget doesn’t support hiring someone or you want the opportunity of having and making your own DIY wedding, it is perfectly possible to plan and execute the perfect wedding yourself.
Be Organized
Firstly organization is key when planning your perfect day. You will have decisions to make, deadlines to meet, timescales, and places to visit along with living your everyday life. So, make sure you give yourself time. When planning something so special yourself the longer timescales can be beneficial so you don’t stretch yourself thin, but also remember this is your partner’s wedding too, delegate some of the tasks and share the workload.
Set A Budget
Your budget will drive a lot of the decisions you make when it comes to planning your day, so it should be the first decision you make. If the family is helping support any of the costs it is important to have a conversation with them to understand what financially this looks like. Whilst, if your fully funding it, review your finances and understand what you can afford to payout. Once this figure is set, stick to it.
Understand What Is A Priority
There are so many elements that go into making a wedding. Of course, within these, there are the elements that must have. This is why it is so important to decide what aspects cannot be compromised on. Ideally try and limit this to a maximum of three items, as this will steer the direction of the rest of your planning. For example, your priority may be a certain venue, date, band, number of guests, or wedding photographer. The priority items will then determine what is left within your budget for the other elements.

Understand The Type Of Wedding You Want
There is an abundance of resources and images out there to help you find that niche that suits and your partner with how you want your special day to turn out. Spend the time really cementing down on the style you want. This will help you so much when you start meeting vendors, caterers and looking to table settings and furnishings.
Find An Organizational System That Works For You
As previously mentioned organization is key! To help you keep on track of all the details, time, and date it is important that you are able to keep on track and organize accordingly. With technology today, there are many tools available to help with this.
Get Your Partner Involved
This is their wedding too, so don’t feel as though you are planning this alone. Involve them as much as possible. Their opinion matters and having their input and assistance will make the whole experience more enjoyable for you. Find out when they are free and book cake tasting together, view venues, or go and see bands. It will bring you closer as a couple at the same time.

Consider Dates And Seasons
If the date is flexible, consider things such as the popularity of the dates you are considering. If one date looks significantly more popular than others the cost will reflect this. Also, the availability of your guest.
Once this has been decided you will be able to consider the seasons and if any additional considerations need to ensure your wedding day is still magical.
Pick A Theme
A theme can be anything from color, season, style, or genre. It can definitely be helpful to know a concept you are striving to achieve. It will make making decisions easier and help with making your wedding look cohesive and well turned out.
Consider Your Guest List
Decided on who to invite can be a complex process and one that can come with restrictions depending upon your venue and or budget. The best practice is to decide on a wish list of guests, make the decision if children will be included and who is allowed to bring a plus one. From there you’ll be able to start making those decisions and cutting the list down if needed.
Be Confident
When organizing and booking vendors to support this day. Be confident in your own decision-making but also in the people you hire.
