If you’ve been following the blog for awhile, then you’ll know that way back in July 2009 I went on a 3 month junk food fast. That meant no sodas, no chips, no fried foods, and no candy for 90 days. While it was hard at first, I successfully made it through and have benefited from much healthier eating habits since then. My soda intake has been drastically reduced (as in no soda at all) as has my chips and candy consumption. Every so often, however, something comes along that briefly returns me to my pre-fasting junk food status. I had one such a moment a several months ago while I was cleaning off my desk.
As I was throwing away old scraps of paper and filing some bills, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of some bright color. Since my desk is white, I was intrigued and took a closer look to find the source of the vibrancy. Lo and behold! A small bag of Jelly Bellys (Bellies?) that I had squirreled away and hidden at the start of my fast. I’m embarrassed to think about how old those jelly beans were, and even more embarrassed to tell you how quickly they lasted, despite their age. Other than a couple of beans that were a little on the tough side, they were oh, so good! Inspired by my discovery, and with a belly full of Jelly Bellys, I happily reminisced about my favorite Jelly Belly flavors, which I will share with you now. 🙂
First off, I never, ever, ever buy the pre-packaged/pre-assorted Jelly Bellies. This ensures that I don’t have to deal with wasted licorice or popcorn beans (blech.) Instead, I go to a candy store that has the lovely single-flavor bins so I can scoop my favorite flavors in the quantities I like. I still remember when I started scooping my own flavors….it was back in college when I discovered the candy store on the corner of the street on the way to my CS class. *sigh* Enough of the reminiscing. Here are my favorite Jelly Belly flavors!
1. Cotton Candy
2. Berry Blue
3. Island Punch
4. Strawberry Daiquiri
5. Green Apple
6. Peach
7. Cinnamon
8. Grape Jelly
9. Juicy Pear
10. Lemon Lime
Did I miss any of your favorites?
Nice choices!
I could use a real strawberry daiquiri at the moment–very sick week for the family.
Have a nice day!
I wish I could send you a virtual drink – but since I can’t I’ll send you my prayers for a speedy recovery for your family. 🙂
Thanks. Everyone seems to better, but me. Living with Crohn’s sometimes makes recovery take longer, even from the simple things like a virus.
At least, it happened this week. 6yob has tonsillectomy/mandibular frenectomy next week.
Have a Blessed Day!
You have successfully made me crave jelly beans! I don’t think I have any in the house, so I’m going to have to run to the store today just to get some. Thanks!
I’m totally craving them too. We need a jelly bean company to sponsor a review and giveaway. LOL!
I love jelly beans!
