I don’t consider myself a particularly crafty person. I don’t own a glue gun. I can’t cut pretty shapes and put them decoratively into a scrapbook. I tried knitting once but ended up with an odd shaped “scarf” that would only fit a teddy bear. There is one little do-it-yourself project that I feel like I was close to successful with, and it’s one that I’m particularly proud of:
Behold! The Mega-Gigantic Cat Bed!
Measuring in at about 3 feet by 2.5 feet, this gigantic cat bed is large enough to not only fit ONE large cat (who likes to eat) but TWO cats!
After getting a couple of really sturdy cardboard boxes from a furniture delivery, I kept looking at the empty boxes with their styrofoam padding and thought “Wow! How cool would it be if those could be giant cat beds?
So, even though I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, I went off to JoAnn’s and purchased batting, stuffing, and a do-it-yourself blanket kit. I used the batting to form a pillow for the middle (I sewed the pillow using yarn…I have no idea why but it’s probably because I had nothing else to create a pillow with,) stuffing it with extra stuffing to make it extra fluffy. Then I folded the edges of the excess batting down to cover the edges of the box so the cats would have a soft place to rest their heads. Next, I used adhesive velcro to adhere the bottom layer of the blanket to the box, then another strip of velcro to stick the top tiger portion of the blanket to the bottom layer. See? I was planning ahead so I could wash the awesome cat bed that I was making by simply taking off the top blanket!
Above is the final product. It looks messy, there are edges of the blanket flopping around, and it weighs a TON. But….
Hobbes likes it. He sleeps in it every night. He doesn’t even leave room for Daisy. Can you spot the real tiger?
The bed looks so comfortable I bet my dogs would even fight over getting to sleep in it. The big dog I have couldn't really sleep in it, but he'd drag it away from the little min pin and make everyone think he was going to. He'd just lay his head in it like he does the little dog's bed at times. My big dog's bed is huge, almost as long as a crib mattress and wider than a crib mattress too.

How cute! I love it! Your kitty looks very happy to have such a wonderful bed to lie down on. And way to go for thinking of a way to take it apart to clean it. I often don't think that far ahead and that spells trouble for me LOL

I think this is just adorable. I love cats although I currently own a small dog instead. You did a great job and when I next own a cat I will try something like this myself.
