According to Wikipedia, “the concept of yin yang is used to describe how polar or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn.” My layman’s version of yin and yang is balance. Everything is balanced and connected in some way. If you drop a rock into a glass of water, the rock will move down, the water will move up, and then they will both be resting at their new levels.
The concept of yin yang has been on my mind recently. Namely because there have been some odd things happening in my life. It may seem like little stuff to you, but I think that if on any given day, something that has been consistently happening a specific way, day in and day out, suddenly and unexpectedly changes, then something is up. What exactly it is, I dunno, but something weird has been going on.
It all started yesterday. I woke up as usual. Got ready for work as usual. Took the bus to the Metro as usual and then realized that I had left my wallet, cell, and Blackberry at home. Not so usual.
This morning, I woke up as usual. Got ready for work as usual. Was snacking on a Yoplait Gogurt, which I’ve been doing for the past week or so, as usual. When all of a sudden, as I’m slurping out the last of the yogurt, the thing explodes all over my shirt. A lovely mess of dark pink yogurt starting at the neckline and slowly dripping down the front. Not so usual. I was wearing a pink shirt already, and if the yogurt had been a different color, I might have just licked up the exploded yogurt and kept on going. But the colors were too different – I couldn’t get away with it.
In both instances, I had to trek all the way back home to either grab my wallet or to change my shirt. Fortunately, I have an understanding boss so I didn’t get in trouble at work. That fact probably helped to me to keep a humorous perspective about the whole thing. “At least I have a somewhat funny story to blog about now,” I thought.
Clearly the universe was playing games with me. Something was off. And then, a force that I can only describe as God balancing things out happened at the end of each day. And just as the little slip ups were little things, so were the things that made up for the “bad” start to the day.
On Wednesday, as I was walking out of the office to head home, I saw a man with a cooler in his arms. Then, out of the blue, he asked me if I wanted an ice cream bar. Now before anyone reacts about sketchy characters and not accepting food from strangers, I’ll mention that I work in a nice office building and I had seen the guy speaking to our receptionist earlier. Back to the story…Do I want an ice cream bar? OH YEAH! It’s 100 degrees outside. I’m no fool. He pulled out one delicious looking Haagen Dazs bar. Ever one to get something for free (hey, I’m part Chinese! It’s in my genes) I was also able to snag two more bars for my friends.
Then today, I got the chance to attend the Bake Me A Wish Twitter Party, and I won a cake! I’ve been entering giveaways to win one of their cakes for at least the past 2 or 3 months, and I finally won one!
Are you starting to see the pattern? Wednesday morning starts with a forgotten wallet and ends with ice cream. Thursday morning starts with yogurt all over my shirt and ends with cake. At this rate, if ANYTHING happens Friday morning then something truly AMAZING will happen at the end of the day…maybe even an entire dinner instead of just dessert!
Some of you may think I’m making a mountain out of a molehill, but I do believe that everything happens for a reason. Whether it was the Lord testing my poise and then rewarding me, or some other lesson I had to learn – the glitches and the blessings both had a purpose. Either way, these things are just little reminders to not let the roadblocks or mistakes in life throw me off my path. Stay calm, keep things in perspective, maintain your poise, and you will be rewarded!
