A WALK WITH GRACE is a faith-based movie from Viva Pictures which releases On Digital and On Demand on November 5, 2019. It’s a modern retelling of the parable of The Prodigal Son. With a starring cast of actors, including Ashley Bracher, David Lee Smith, Stephen Baldwin, and Ian Grey, A Walk With Grace is a drama with romantic undertones.
The movie begins with a mother on her deathbed, reflecting back on her son, and then talking to Grace who is taking notes from their conversation. Next, we’re seeing Nate “Iceman” Lassiter, a widower, in his car with his teen daughter Chloe en route to the funeral. Nate is conducting business as Chloe observes the town and finds the church signs amusing. Nate is obviously a workaholic, former town wrestling champion, and they’re in the “Buckeye Country” of Lima, Ohio (pronounced like the lima bean).
Things are tense at the church. It’s been a while since Nate has been back in town. Many feel when he left, he forgot the town. He arrives at the factory his mother has left in his care, and is confronted by former friends, now on strike. They want him to save the factory and their jobs. His cousin, the majority shareholder, has other plans. She wants to sell, right away. The meeting is interrupted by Grace, a lawyer, who demands he wait over the weekend before making a choice, tells him of his mother’s wishes, and she recites a bible verse per his mother’s wishes: “What does it profit a man to gain the entire world and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36
He becomes involved in some of the town’s events, it’s nearing Easter, and it’s spring wrestling season. He’s honored with plaque which has the quote “the guy who always did the right thing” by his alma mater. The town is trying to welcome him back, convince him to keep the factory going.
Graciela, his late wife’s sister, shows up, and the similar meaning of her name, and that of Grace, is not lost. Chloe finds a friend in the pastor’s son, Luke, who is also a star wrestler. As Grace and Nate grow closer, the possibility of a second chance in love hinges on whether or not he goes back to L.A. and the decisions he makes for the factory. He is reminded that one only has to answer to oneself and to God. To decide what is his moral imperative.
Nate has a huge decision weighing on his shoulders the entire movie, and it can change the course of his life, the factory, the town, and his loved ones. He is torn with reminders of the past and what he wants for his future. Hidden truths are revealed, and he must make a choice on whether or not to take a stand.
The movie reminds us that walking with grace is our motivation to lay our burdens to the side and accept Christ’s grace. It is also Nate’s possible second chance to be with a former love, Grace. The reminder of Easter coming adds to the story of grace and forgiveness.
A WALK WITH GRACE is a beautiful, modern retelling of The Prodigal Son, confronting the choices we must make in life and to accept the grace Christ freely offers us.
A Walk With Grace is now available for online streaming starting November 5, 2019 on Amazon, iTunes, GooglePlay, DirecTV, and other On Digital and On Demand providers.
