For the second year, the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) has kicked off their annual Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign. This year, they are focusing on helping our little ones learn the value of giving back through fun activities for the kids and useful talking tips for parents.
As part of the campaign, the BGCA hosted a Kids Give Back photo contest, asking clubs to submit their service projects for a chance to win $2,500. This year’s winner was the Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County, Oak Harbor clubhouse in Oak Harbor, WA. The club planted a successful garden and donated their products to their local help house.
Another thing that makes the BGCA’s 2nd annual Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign so special is that you are able to donate to a child, just by playing the free Giving Game. I played the giving game and “winning” gave a BGCA Club kid a plantable bookmark that can grow into wildflowers in the spring. I encourage you to take a minute to play the Giving Game to make this free donation.

Go ahead – play and a lucky kid will win!
During the holidays, we’re especially reminded about the blessings we have and the value of blessing others – in thought, word, and in deed. To help parents teach their children the value of giving back, the BGCA has created a list of tips to inspire more giving. Some of those tips include:
1. Volunteer together – I love this one – it’s all about leading by example.)
2. Tell family stories about philanthropy – Make it a family event so they know it’s important.
3. Be enthusiastic! – The way things are talked about can influence how a child views it. Talking about giving back with excitement will make them excited too!
