While I love to eat, very few restaurants have made it into my “favorite” category – 3 to be exact. One of those restaurants is Bugaboo Creek Steak House. There are 12 Bugaboo restaurants peppered in the North East, and I’m fortunate to have one just a few miles away.
First and foremost, Bugaboo Creek is a family-friendly steakhouse. I know that sometimes eating out can be a scary thing for parents – especially if your kids are on the energetic side. Fortunately, the walls of the Bugaboo Creek lodge are filled with interesting pictures, old wooden tools, and rustic decor. What will really excite the young ones is when one of the animated animals starts moving or even talking! “My” restaurant has the always talkative Buffalo Bill and Moxie the Moose, flapping trout, and a peek-a-boo raccoon (he pops out of the barrel and then hide back inside.) The booths are large and there is plenty of space to allow a little bit of squirming without disturbing the other diners.
My Bugaboo dinner started off with a loaf of freshly baked bread and a couple of drinks. Bugaboo Creeks has the best honey wheat bread I’ve tasted. The rolls come out hot out of the oven – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside – with a small bowl of whipped butter. It is amazing. One of my friends who never eats any sort of wheat bread loves this Bugaboo bread. Each week, our local Bugaboo bakes up over 1100 loaves of bread for hungry guests. Another Bugaboo specialty is their pineapple infused Moose Juice. Moose Juice is used to blend a number of yummy drinks, including their Moose Juice Cosmopolitan and the new Cabin Coolers (try the Wild Berry – it’s awesome.)
Normally I don’t even need to look at the menu at Bugaboo. I have my favorite dish and this is something I am telling all meat-eaters to try – Garlic & Parmesan Crusted Prime Rib. It’s a perfectly cooked piece of tender prime rib, with a hint of a pepper crust, topped with Italian Breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic aoili, with a hint of lime. Incidentally, the most popular dish at Bugaboo is anything with Snowbird Chicken – crispy and juicy pieces of batter-friend chicken that are great for kids and adults.
This time I was a little more adventurous and sampled something from their special Lobster at the Lodge Menu. My eyes zeroed in on the Lobster & Asparagus Topped Filet which was ordered with a Garden salad and baked potato. If you’re a lobster fan, you can also try their Lobster Bisque, Lobster & Shrimp Penne, Lobster & Shrimp Nachos, and the Lobster Roll Sandwich.
This is where I’m going to make a note about service at the local Bugaboo Creek. Our glasses were always full and our dirty plates were cleared off promptly. Every time we go to Bugaboo, we’re greeted with a smile and have cheery and friendly servers. It truly is a friendly environment. If you have any questions about the drinks or the food, feel free to ask your server – I’ve always gotten honest opinions and their recommendations have been spot on.
Now let’s jump to the entrées – the good stuff, the main event. Take a gander at this:
Everything was delicious! My center cut steak was a perfectly cooked medium and the sauce was amazing. Lobster was tender, asparagus was crisp and the baked potato had all the fixin’s. Food doesn’t get much better than that.
I definitely consider myself a Bugaboo “regular” and therefore I have some confidence when I make these Bugaboo recommendations.
- Be careful not to eat all of the bread. You can get more than one loaf (which I’ve done.) It is so good, that you will easily fill up on bread & butter if you don’t monitor your intake.
- If you have a child, try to get one of the booths or tables in the center of the room. That will help ensure prime viewing of the animals.
- If you drink occasionally (and are over 21 of course), try one of Bugaboo’s specialty drinks made with their famouse Moose Juice. The local Bugaboo makes 6 gallons of Moose Juice a week, so you know it’s got to be good.
- LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! While I didn’t discuss desserts this time since I was just too full, I’ve had a few of Bugaboo’s desserts. The chocolate cake is definitely a winner.
If you’ll be heading to your local Bugaboo Creek Steak House today or tomorrow, please participate in the Bugaboo Creek Back to School Supply Drive. Simply bring school supplies with you to the restaurant (Backpacks, Binders, Notebooks, Pencil Boxes, etc.) and receive a free appetizer with purchase of an adult entrée. The collected school supplies will be donated to a local school.
For a fun and delicious lunch or dinner excursion, I definitely recommend Bugaboo Creek Steak House. The environment is warm, the service is great, and the food is delicious!

Even as a vegetarian (99%), I love steak houses. they have the best potatoes (usually) and great bread.
I am jealous. This was my favorite restaurant in the world and it just up and closed one day (Georgia). 🙁 They had just added some delicious menu items too! I loved trapper petes chicken pasta and the new bbq smothered chicken meals.
I love Bugaboo Steak House! I have one just a few miles from my house also! 🙂
