There are times when two things combined are better than each thing individually. Peanut butter and jelly. Apple pie and vanilla ice cream. And now, chips and pretzels.
CEO, owner, and baker of the Sara Snacker Cookie Company, Sara Leand, has created an amazingly delicious and unique treat by combining potato chips and pretzels to create a new type of cookie – the Chipn’etzel. Chipn’etzels are available in three different flavors – original, dark chocolate, and white chocolate and come in miniature size as well.
My fellow testers and I were very excited at the opportunity to try out the Chipn’etzel Dark Chocolate and the Chipn’etzel White Chocolate. Mentally, I just couldn’t figure out how they were going to turn two salty snacks into a sweet cookie. The ingredient math made no sense, so I had to see (or taste) how they did it.
When you receive the packages, the Chipn’etzels look like your normal cookies. The box I got told me that my cookies were baked from scratch in a small batch, were preservative free, and were hand dipped in chocolate. I love that these aren’t mass produced by machines because it really takes you back to the days of good ‘ole, make-the-house-smell-like-cookies, cookie baking. Opening my boxes, I saw that the Chipn’etzels are generously coated in chocolate on one side, with drizzles of chocolate on the other side. So far, so good – it looks like a cookie, but does it taste like one too?
Once the visual inspection was done, it was time to see if the Chipn’etzels tasted like cookies, chips, pretzels, or something else. Before even biting into the cookie, I noticed that the Chipn’etzels don’t have any of the greasiness of potato chips and are quite dense. Biting into the Chipn’etzel, you’ll find that it has a nice, thick texture that isn’t too crumbly.
To me, the Chipn’etzels tasted like the best shortbread cookies I’ve ever had. How it is that they are able to make chips and pretzels taste like shortbread cookies is an utter mystery to me and is probably hidden away in some recipe safe. Similarly, others weren’t able to pinpoint specific ‘potato chip’ taste or ‘pretzel’ taste, but the subtle saltiness was there. As one tester put it, “The saltiness of the pretzels with the sweetness of the chocolate – perfect! Which is weird because normally white chocolate is not my preference, and neither are pretzels.” Another tester thought that this snack was a cross between a gourmet pastry and a candy, so imagine his surprise when I revealed, “No, no…it’s chips and pretzels.”
The delicious cookies at Sara Snacker Cookie Company don’t end with the Chipn’etzel. They also have several other tempting treats that you can purchase in a gift box or in a signature tin. In addition to the Lemonade Cookie, Candie Pop Cookie, and the other products being launched in January of next year, they currently have Hot Chocolate Linzer Tarts, Chocolate Hand Dipped Twinkies, and the one I’m looking forward to trying – Chocolate Chip Ginger Snaps.
With their unique combination of ingredients Sara Snacker Cookies truly stand out from the cookie crowd, making them a great gift for the holidays. You can check out all of their yummy cookies and place your order through their online store at sarasnacker.com.
