Last week, I shared that I’d be taking Country Crock Spreads to the kitchen to see how well they replace butter in some of our favorite recipes. Coming in at 30% fewer calories, 0g of trans-fat, and 70% less saturated fat, it definitely seems like a healthier option.
On our latest Walmart run, I stopped by the butters and margarine to see the options I had. Not only were there Country Crock sticks (just like sticks of butter), but there were several varieties of Country Crock Spread, including a Cinnamon Country Crock, Honey Spread Country Crock, and Country Crock with Calcium Plus Vitamin D. Since this was my first time trying Country Crock, and since I planned on baking with it, I opted for Country Crock Original Spread.
Once we got home, it was time to bake. I decided to bake some strawberry lemonade cheesecake. Where I’d traditionally use butter for the crust, I swapped it out with Country Crock spread. 1 Tablespoon of Country Crock instead of 1 Tablespoon of butter. As soon as I opened the Country Crock, I was impressed by the smooth texture. It was like softened, creamy butter, which means I didn’t have to melt it or soften it before using it.
I mixed the Country Crock spread with the graham cracker crumbs and sugar to make the crust. As I mixed with the fork, I noticed that the Country Crock seemed to “act” just like softened butter too. I had no problem blending the ingredients and baking the crusts. Stay tuned for our next post where I share my recipe (and video!) for strawberry lemonade cheesecake and how it tasted with the Country Crock spread crust.
In addition to cheesecake crusts, you can sub-out butter for Country Crock in many other favorite dishes as well. Grilled cheese sandwiches, buttered vegetables, toppings for mashed or baked potatoes. If you want even more ways you can cook with Country Crock, head over to www.itsgoodtoknow.com for more tasty recipes.
Cooking your favorite recipes using Unilever buttery spreads is a deliciously smart move. With 0g trans fats per serving, less saturated fat and fewer calories than butter, cholesterol-free spreads are a better option.
