I love baking desserts. Something about the smell of freshly baked cookies or the joy of biting into a frosted cupcake just makes me smile. The tricky thing is that desserts are often packed with something that doesn’t make me smile so much – calories. Lots and lots of calories. So, when I heard about a new sugar alternative that had half the calories as regular sugar, I was intrigued. Intrigued and wary at the same time. I’m trying to be more aware of the foods I eat, and the last thing I wanted was some new sugar thing that was all chemically and artificial.
Domino® Light is an all natural pure cane sugar and stevia blend with half the calories of sugar. That’s over a 350-calorie savings in each cup! By blending pure cane Domino® Sugar with a naturally sweet extract from the stevia plant, we have created a delicious sweetener with no artificial ingredients. Domino® Light is the ideal sweetener — a perfect sweet taste and half the calories of sugar!
Once I saw that Domino® Light was an all natural product, I was eager to bake with it. Baking with Domino® Light is a little different than baking with “regular” sugar. You use exactly half the amount of Domino® Light as you would sugar, so you might need to compensate for texture and cooking time. I decided to test out the Domino® Light with one of my favorite recipes – chocolate chip cookies.
Here you can see the the Domino® Light Sugar & Stevia Blend looks just like sugar. I made sure that I halved the amount of sugar that the recipe called for since I was using Domino® Light. A few mixes and 9 minutes in the oven later, I had delicious, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.
They say that stevia has a slight licorice taste which is balanced out by natural flavors. I couldn’t taste any licorice flavors in the final cookies. I took the cookies over to some friends, one of whom is a self-proclaimed chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. After sampling, he declared the cookies to taste gourmet. All cookie testers (wow, tough job, right?) said that they couldn’t tell the difference in flavor at all.

Wow, I love the idea of this! We currently use “light” salt, which is half salt, so we have less of a sodium intake. I need to print the coupon out and try this! Thanks for the post!
I love this & running out to store to get some
this would be worth a try! ive never tried stevia before. i hope its not like drinking a diet coke and then eating something with real sugar. that taste is always pretty gross… at least to me!
I will try this for cookies and brownies. Thanks for the tip that it could have a licorce taste!
I have never tried this I bet it would be a good way to cut calories.
I want to try your cookies too.
I have to cut my sugar, but I hate artificial sweeteners. Can’t wait to try this!
I have been making my own blends of sugar and stevia, but this would be easier
I know stevia is supposed to be all-natural, but I find it has an aftertaste…nice review
I DONT KNOW WHAT STEVIA IS,BUT I PROBABLY NEED TO TRY THIS LIGHT STUFF…
i had no idea they now offered a product mix of sugar and stevia. I have heard that stevia was a great sweetener but have not yet tried it. I like the fact that it is a mix so it will likely be as close to sugar flavor as possible. I love to bake as well but avoid it most of the time due to the high carbohydrates. Now…maybe I can bake and eat again…well, some of it.I have a major sweet-tooth! 😉
I have a sweet tooth but really can’t afford the calories. This would be great — I may just bake!! I usually don’t bake because then I eat it and then add on the pounds!!!
Sounds great! I always have to have my sweets and would love it if they could be less calories. How awesome is that!
Can’t wait for the twitter party b/c this sounds amazing, me being diabetic and all

this stuff is so amazing i love it!
Sounds like a great product.
I use Stevia in my iced tea daily and love it. This product would help me lighten up my baking. Thanks for letting us know about it. 🙂
Recently my doc has said I need to cut back on sugar. But I have found most artificial sweeteners dont taste very good. Plus they have unhealthy things I can even pronounce in them. Since Stevia is natural, I think I will try this one. Cookies look yummy!
Will have to try this!
