It wasn’t until I became an adult that I started to appreciate wine. I used to think wine was just a weird tasting drink – like beer. (Ack! Did I just type that?) If anything, that should put into perspective how one’s palette can change. Over time, I learned that just as people have different taste in foods, people have different tastes in wine. I didn’t have to like every wine, I just needed to find the wines I liked.
Last weekend, after a very busy work week, Gil and I decided to relax with a couple of glasses of Kenwood Vineyards wine. Kenwood Vineyards is located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, working with dozens of Sonoma Valley vineyards to create premium wines that are perfect for holiday gatherings or for unwinding and relaxing. Each lot of Kenword Vineyards wine is unqiue, with every lot of grapes from each vineyard is kept separate, allowing the winemaker to perfect each “small lot”, or “cuvee”, to highlight the wine’s flavor, character, and complexity.
Kenwood Vineyards offers a selection of wines that represent Sonoma County’s world-class vineyards that are perfect for sipping, toasting, and enjoying for Thanksgiving, special occasions, and holiday gatherings. We had the opportunity to enjoy a few of the wines from the Kenwood Vineyards Sonoma Series.
I’m more of a white wine drinker, so I opted for the Kenwood Vineyards 2012 Sonoma County Chardonnay. This Chardonnay has aromas of apple, lime, and ginger and has a light, crisp finish. If you’re serving seafood or chicken for Thanksgiving, this would be a great pairing. This wine was perfect for my wine preference, light, a hint of sweetness, and a clean finish.
Gil prefers a red wine because of the bolder wine flavor. Between the 2011 Sonoma County Zinfandel and the 2012 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, we uncorked the Cabernet, saving the Zin for our next wine night. This red wine pairs well with steak, lamb or rich pasta dishes. The finish of the Cabernet was very smooth and it had great body and flavor.
I loved that Kenwood Vineyards offers so much insight into each of the wines we drank on their website www.kenwoodvineyards.com. Their wine notes include information about how long the wine was aged, where the grapers were souorced froms, and flavor profiles. They also have a food pairings chart and recipes to prepare tasty food to pair with Kenwood Vineyards wines. For wine pairing tips, recipes, and more wine information, you can also follow Kenwood Vineyards on Twitter and “Like” Kenwood Vineyards on Facebook.
