Most of us are familiar with spring “cleaning”. It’s when warmer weather starts to creep in, we throw open the windows and start scrubbing, cleaning, and organizing to help shake off the winter. Or at least that’s what I think it is. Lysol is challenging us to not just be spring cleaning, but to be spring “healthing.”

Does your toddler like to “go fish”? If so, you want to get “healthing.”
What is Healthing?
Healthing is a verb, not an adjective to be confused with healthy. Healthing goes beyond just cleaning. Healthing is not only making this sparkle, but it is also killing germs that are often lurking on surfaces around the house. Healthing is about a mentality shift that looks not only at how you can get your home clean, but how cleaning and disinfecting your home can help keep your family healthier by lowering the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between family members.
Think about it. How many surfaces do you touch each day? Keyboards, door knobs, telephones, faucets – the list goes on. How many other people in the family touch those same surfaces each day and how many of those other people wash their hands as frequently as they probably should? Throw in a toddler with a stuffy nose and it becomes a germy mess that can quickly spread through the home.
And that is where healthing your home comes in.
A Few Healthing Tips
Using products that not only clean but can also kill germs, such as Lysol products, which can kill up to 99.9% of germs on surfaces, hands, and in the air, can not only help get your home spic and span, but also germ-free (or should I say, 99.9% germ free?)

Killing germs is a part of healthing.
One of the things I like to do is a keep a tub of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes in the main “germ-prone” areas like bathrooms (yes, each one has their own tub) and the kitchen. By having them available, it’s easy to grab a wipe and quickly wipe down and disinfect counters, drains faucets, toilets, etc. Don’t forget even the smaller things you touch, like light switches, locks, and handles. Anything a germy hand could touch is something that can be disinfected.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), handwashing is the most important thing you can do to prevent illness. Make sure you and everyone in your family knows how to properly wash hands using warm water with soap, scrubbing for 20 seconds. Make sure to get both sides of the hands as well as the tips of the fingers and between the fingers. A splash of water does not a clean hand make.

I love the term “healthing!” Can be used in place of “cleaning” in so many ways!
