Creation Crate is a monthly tech subscription box for ages 12-75 with an emphasis on learning how to build and code electronic projects with components and instructions sent monthly in an easy to use format. Each month, Creation Crate projects are progressively more challenging as you learn. The STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) projects combine hardware and programming software using Arduino-compatible components with step-by-step coding instructions, information on common errors, bonus exercises, and a sneak peek at the next project to come. The skills learned will help keep one tech-literate. Created by teachers to be educational and hands-on, the programming may give the user an edge in knowledge and experience as he/she attains the twelve badges. Everything needed is included in the kit—you just need to have a computer with internet access and a USB port.**
Our builder received the Mood Lamp kit which contains the components, an instruction booklet with a clearly marked parts list, introduction, explanation of hardware and how to build the project, how to access the Arduino software, coding for programming the project, how to connect the board to the computer with the provided USB cord, and how to find common errors if the project doesn’t upload the first time.
Our builder (12) was able to assemble the project with the provided instructions without any parental assistance. The software was easy to load, and coding was done straight from the instruction booklet with very clear explanations. Our builder enjoys STEM-projects and this was a fun build.
With STEM-based education and skills becoming more universal, learning the how-to in easy projects helps keep the interest of the student and enables he/she to enjoy the process while building. The programming and coding skills will be essential in education and may lead the student to find a tech-based career path as he/she continues in higher education. The concepts learned are invaluable to the user and help foster a love for STEM-based learning. While the projects are focused on ages 12+, they’re not just for kids. Anyone interested in learning technology skills will find the projects enjoyable. Creation Crate’s motto is Building the Makers of Tomorrow and the subscription box delivers on that maxim.
Creation Crate is currently available on IndieGoGo. All subscriptions are on sale. Monthly Creation Crate subscriptions are $35/month (marked down from $60/month)
**If you have the latest Windows 10 update, you may have to adjust some settings for the Arduino software download to open.
