I attended a free Advance Screening in exchange for my honest opinion.
Avengers: Endgame is the final installment of the twenty-two film MCU franchise from Marvel Studios. Rated PG-13, the action-adventure movie is available in multiple platforms including IMAX and 3D.
Avengers: Endgame begins in the aftermath of the previous movie, Avengers: Infinity War. We see the vanishing of a family in one scene. In another, Tony Stark/Iron Man is drifting in his aircraft, food and water gone, oxygen almost depleted, he is in bad shape and records what may be his last words in a video to be played after his death. As he falls into sleep, Captain Marvel arrives and flies the ship to Avengers’ headquarters. Half the universe is destroyed or vanished, many of the Avengers were lost the battle, and those remaining have different goals for going on.

Nebula suggests where they might find Thanos and the Infinity Stones Gauntlet. They agree to one last-ditch effort to retrieve the stones.
Flash forward five years, some of the Avengers have moved on: Captain Marvel is working in space where help is needed, Wakanda remains protected, Captain America/Steve is just going through the motions of life…and one day he shows up at the Avengers headquarters. Meanwhile, because of a rat, Ant-Man is returned to his van through the activation of the Quantum Realm. After wandering around trying to figure what has happened, he learns he is listed as one of the vanished, but his daughter is alive. Connecting with those at Avengers headquarters, he suggests the answer could be a quantum time travel back in time, before the war, to find the stones. His disappearance felt like five hours–not five years. They meet with Bruce Banner/The Hulk, who has become a new form in an amalgam of both personalities by combining the best of each, to see if he can create the science. They try to connect with Tony Stark to bring him on board, but Tony is content with life. He suggests they try the family life. Back at the HQ, they’re experimenting with time travel, not quite perfected, and making lots of pop culture references. At home, Tony figures it out and arrives with a plan. Realizing they’ll need all the help they can get, they gather Clint, now a vigilante; Thor, a slovenly drunken mess; Natasha, Captain America, Bruce/Hulk, Ant-Man, Rhodey, Nebula, and Rocket. They have one chance to amass the stones from the past—before the war. Not an easy task, they cannot alter the past in retrieving the stones, and it is not without risk or sacrifice of life. They cannot fail. Whatever it takes. Along the way, Steve and Tony find links to their pasts, and Thor has one last conversation with his mother before her death. The Ancient One does not want to give up her stone because she knows how it will upset the balance, but when she learns Dr. Strange gave up a stone to Thanos in the Infinity War, it changes everything.

As they mourn the loss of one, they must prepare to bring back all that was lost to alter the course for the future and restore the world. Thanos (from the past) figures out their plan, and works against them through manipulating Nebula, even as they gather the stones to return them to the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos breaches the portal to the future and destroys Avengers headquarters. A battle of grandiose proportions ensues. As they unite the Infinity Stones in the Gauntlet, the lost Avengers are revived and join in the fight. One by one, we see our favorites back and fighting for everything. Back and forth until the Avengers have succeeded.
Later they watch a hologram message recorded before the battle and find peace with the outcome. One last task is assigned, but the superhero does not return as expected. A torch is passed from one superhero to another to create a new identity for a treasured character. So many loose ends are tied up, it’s hard to believe this is the finale`.

Avengers: Endgame delivers with an epic rollercoaster of ups and downs, unexpected twists and turns, cheers in victory and tears of loss. The battle scenes are amazing in their action sequences, the special effects throughout the film are stunning, and bringing back characters long gone from the franchise to unite in the plot helps this movie go out with a bang and proves why this is has been the most successful film franchise. Since the movie is almost three hours, plan on not leaving–you won’t want to miss a second of the action. You’ll want to see this more than once—it’s that good!
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame – Official Trailer
I can’t wait. Avengers: Endgame should be amazing!
It’s mind-blowing good!
WOW. That was a lot of movie. They covered so much, I must watch it again, LOL.
I wish they’d spent more time on a couple of the sub-plots, but then I guess a 4 hour movie would’ve been too much. (Although, they did pull it off for Gone with the Wind, so I wouldn’t be totally opposed to future Marvel movies being longer….)
I know there had to have been things I missed, partly because I haven’t seen them all and partly because so much was happening. I need to see it again, too.
Have you seen the trailer for the next Spider-Man? Looks good.
It would be harder to have a longer movie with the multi-screen theater concept out there. It worked years ago because they could have an intermission when there was only one screen. The theaters were so fancy. There was one in my hometown, now gone, and it still had the velvet seats, fancy box office, and sweeping staircase.
My husband’s great-grandparents owned one in the early 20th century. Theaters were one of the few public places to have air conditioning back then.
I haven’t seen the trailer yet. I’ll have to go lok! I see what you mean about them referencing the other movies. I like how they bring it all together – like connecting dots you didn’t even know were there.
Good point about the run time. You can’t do intermissions as easily.
I don’t remember going to a single-screen theater ever, so I just picture The Majestic (from the movie, LOL.) That’s pretty cool that your great in-laws (? – grandparents twice removed? I dunno, HA!) owned a theater back then!
Thanks!
Just saw it last night and had a great time. You were spot on!
Thank you so much, David!
