Not Your Every Day Monopoly
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first opened the Monopoly Millionaire box. It looked similar to the Monopoly I already know, but it had a few differences. First, instead of paper money, there is the more durable cardboard money that is a bit smaller and worth a lot more. Instead of $1, $5, $10, it’s $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000. The thimble, shoe, and wheelbarrow have made way to a boat, car, airplane, and motorcycle that can be “leveled up.”
There are also new Fortune Cards and Millionaire Lifestyle cards that add a new twist. The other new element was that when you land on a property, it either has to be bought or it goes to auction. This can lead to some lively “bidding wars” with some elaborate bidding strategies. In Monopoly Millionaire, the goal of the game is to reach $1,000,000 first. I really liked that there was a clear “end” to the game. I never really knew (or understood) when the old Monopoly truly ended.
We set-up the game, reviewed the rules, and settled down for a game. I enjoyed the “surprise” element of Fortune cards, which can be used to steal property, get free houses, or stop people from taking your land. I wasn’t as fond of the Chance and Millionaire Lifestyle cards because more often than not, I was on the “losing” end, having to give money to the other players, who totally loved the Chance and Millionaire Lifestyle Cards. I bought property, collected rent, got sent to jail, and ultimately came thisclose to winning. I was beaten to a million dollars by a measly $40,000. $40k! SO CLOSE.
I had so much fun playing Monopoly Millionaire. While it has some of the same “basics” as the traditional game, buying property, Chance cards, and Passing Go, the new twists and features it has added makes it a different, yet still familiar, game. This is definitely a game that we’ll be playing many, many times. I need to redeem myself!
If you would like to add Monopoly Millionaire to your game collection, you can find it Walmart, Target, and other stores near you. You can also buy Monopoly Millionaire online from Amazon.com for just $14.86.
