I attended a free Advance Screening in exchange for my honest opinion.
FROZEN 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to FROZEN from Walt Disney Animation Studios. With the returning all-star cast of voices, including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad, the movie is sure to please. The animated musical fantasy is rated PG and suitable for all ages.
FROZEN 2 begins with a flashback of Elsa and Anna as little girls playing “enchanted forest” before bedtime. Their father tells them the legend of the real Enchanted Forest which is covered by a mystical mist and their mother sings a lullaby which foretells the future.
In the present, Elsa is hearing a voice, like a siren, calling only to her. She feels the need to seek out the voice and knows there is meaning behind it. Arendelle is under attack from an unknown source, and the people are evacuated. Unwilling to allow Elsa to go alone, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven travel with her to the Enchanted Forest in search of answers.
In the forest, they learn what has been told in the legend doesn’t add up. The two opposing sides, Arendelle and Northuldra, survived and have been living there all these years, still as enemies. Finding the shipwreck from where her parents were lost at sea, there’s a hidden map to another land. With nothing making sense, Elsa knows she must seek more information about her powers and the ancient river, including finding out the truth of the past.
Anna stays behind with everyone else as Elsa treks alone to the mysterious land where her powers are challenged. There are surprising revelations throughout the story and lots of adventure, including new characters from the Northuldra; comic relief with Kristoff trying multiple times to propose to Anna, only to be met with interruption; a cute salamander named Bruni nearly steals hearts away from the beloved Olaf; and the water spirit horse, a Nokk, is mystical creature helping Elsa.
The music moves the movie forward, and two songs stand out, “Into the Unknown” and “Lost in the Woods.” While a sequel, the movie serves well as a standalone. Olaf even gives an amusing history of the entire first movie in his own special way. The plot thickens with many twists and turns—no spoilers here—and lots of emotional moments of joy and occasional sadness.
Enchanting and magical, the fantasy world of Elsa and Anna continues its lure and you’re bound to be entertained. Secrets unearthed bring changes, some unexpected, the righting of wrongs, and the sisters remain the best of friends. Frozen 2 is the perfect kickoff to the holiday season.
Disney’s Frozen 2 arrives in theaters on November 22, 2019.

Would you believe Gil still hasn’t seen the first one? It’s a struggle when it’s just snowed and I say “do you want to build a snowman?” and he doesn’t get it. LOL!
