Cell phones have already become more than just telephones. They’re extensions of our computers and laptops, in a sense. We use them to check emails, surf the web, and update our social networks. The new Windows 8 Phones seem to have been designed with just that type of use in mind.
I’ve been using my new HTC Windows Phone 8X for the past month or so, and I’m continually impressed by how much I can do on this phone. Not only does it have the “standard” smart phone features, but I can also use Microsoft Office (yes, Office – as in creating Word Docs, filling out Excel sheets, the works.)The Windows 8 Phone Start Screen is comprised of “Live Tiles” that represent every app and feature of the phone. The fully customizable start screen allows you to adjust the Live Tiles according to how you use your phone. You can add or remove apps from your start screen, make certain app icons bigger or smaller, as well as change the order of how everything is displayed. You can truly make the Windows 8 Phone start screen your own.
Here’s a shot of my Windows 8 Phone start screen, where I added my most-used social networks at the top using the smaller icons. Then I have my phone and camera functions as medium icons, with the time a big icon so it’s easier to spot the time.
So you can see how much you can rearrange and change the Start Screen, I put together this little video showing some of the things you can do.
From surfing the web, to taking pictures and videos, to chatting with friends, the Windows 8 Phone can be everything you would want your phone to be.
How would you customize your start screen? What apps would you have?
