After having already sampled one batch of cheeses, I was ready for this review. I had already researched what the rind around the cheese was (a naturally formed, edible “skin” created by molds and bacteria on the cheese.) And I knew that brie is a soft cheese made from cow’s milk. With this knowledge firmly in my mind, I was ready to try a new sample of Brie cheese – the new Président Brie log.
Made by Président Cheese, the #1 brand of Brie in France, the Brie log is described as “deliciously buttery and creamy inside, with a snow-white edible rind, mild flavor with subtle mushroom notes.” I found the flavor of the Président Brie log to be wonderful. I felt like I was eating an expensive cheese that you could only buy in a high-end cheese shop. There was a very definite cheesiness to the Brie, but it wasn’t overwhelming. When I closed my eyes, I could get a hint of earthiness in the flavor, which gave the cheese a very pleasant richness to it. One tester thought that the flavor tasted like melted butter mixed with gourmet cheese. I found it interesting that each taster found a different layer of flavors when they tried the cheese. Since one of my testers liked it so much he would “eat it all day”, I decided to leave the rest of the Brie cheese log for him to enjoy.
The log shape makes the Président Brie log convenient for cheese and wine parties because you simply need to slice the log into perfectly sized rounds. After slicing the Brie log, you’ll notice that the rind isn’t too thick around the cheese, which was nice for me since I don’t eat the rind. The other testers did eat the rind and mentioned that eating the Brie with the rind provided additional texture and brought out the cheese flavor a little more.
Texture-wise, the Président Brie log is incredibly smooth. Fellow testers described the texture as a mix between butter and pudding. It was creamy and smooth in the mouth, with a thickness that was solid but not heavy. The Brie was very easy to spread on a cracker with a knife, seemingly melting into shape as the knife spread it around.
If you’re planning on hosting a holiday party and want to add a bit of gourmet flavor, then you should consider the Président Brie log. The Président Cheese website has great information about cheese, including pairing tips, how-to videos, and a great list of gourmet recipes that you can create using their cheeses. The new Président Brie log is available now in grocery stores nationwide.
Disclaimer: This post consists of my (and/or fellow tester) opinions only. No compensation was given for this review/giveaway. I did receive a free sample of Président Brie logs from the manufacturer or the representing PR agency to use and test for the purposes of this review. This did not affect the outcome of this review.
