Recently Judah’s been a lot more sensitive to thunderstorms. When he used to crawl into the doghouse and snooze through them, lately he’s starting pawing at the door and running around the yard at the first sounds of thunder. While many people turn to prescription medicine that sedates the dog to “help” them through a storm, Gil and I were looking for a more natural solution to help Judah be calmer and more relaxed when it’s storming. When I learned that there were CBD products that could help relieve stress and anxiety in your dog, I knew it was something to try.
I received free product from AndHemp to use and test for the purposes of this review. No compensation was given for this review and all opinions are my own. This post may contain affiliate links.
If you weren’t aware, the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the use of industrialized hemp (with less than 0.3% THC) in all 50 states. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is one of 100 cannabinoids that make up the cannabis plant and is the compound that causes psychoactive effects. CBD (short for cannabidiol) is another type of cannabinoid which offers a variety of potential benefits for both people and animals. Unlike what people commonly know as “weed” from other types of cannabis plants, hemp-based CBD is THC-free and will not get you or your pet “high.” From anti-inflammatory properties to stress relief to pain relief, the best CBD products offer a more holistic alternative to help our pets have a happy and healthy life.
AndHemp produces high-quality, cannabinoid-rich products for both people and pets using a proprietary blend of Full Spectrum Hemp Extract in Hemp Seed Oil. They provide lab results for all of their CBD products so you can be confident in the quality of products you’re taking or you’re feeding your pet. AndHemp CBD products for pets are specifically designed for animals and are veterinary-tested. AndHemp’s AndPets Peanut Butter treats can be used to help keep your pet calm and focused, even during training sessions.
Shortly after I took the above pictures, a storm started to roll in. I was curious to see whether I could discern a difference in Judah’s behavior. Unlike during the last thunderstorm, Judah seemed much more relaxed and comfortable. When I glanced out the window, he was napping peacefully in the middle of the grass, even as the thunder boomed and rain started to fall.
As a larger dog, I started Judah off with 4 treats. Check the packaging for the recommended dosage for your dog’s size. If your dog has never ingested CBD before, it’s a good idea to start with a lower dosage and observe the effects before increasing the amount. While I did not personally taste these treats, I’m certain Judah enjoyed the flavor. After carefully sniffing the first treat, he was eager to wolf down the subsequent treats. I like that they’re made with real peanut butter and natural, organic ingredients.
AndPets Peanut Butter Treats by AndHemp each have 5mg of CBD Hemp Extract per treat. You can purchase a bag of 20 treats on andhemp.com. While you’re there, you can browse a variety of different CBD products for both people and pets, including CBD oils, CBD tinctures, great-tasting CBD gummies and more.
Have you ever given your pet (or have you personally tried) CBD?
