The girls have a new toy. It’s called a Hide-A-Squirrel and it consists of three stuffed squirrels that “hide” inside a padded tree. There are three openings for the squirrels to stick their heads that are just the right size for the pups to give them a good tug for the squirrels to come out. The idea is that you can hide a treat or toy inside the tree trunk, put the squirrels into the tree, and then the dogs will have to figure out how to pull out the squirrels to get to the treat.
The pups love these toys, however possibly not the way that was intended. First, the girls have figured out to go right to the bottom hole and shove their muzzles in to get to the treat that has fallen to the bottom of the tree, completely ignoring the squirrels. Then they decide the tree would be much better without any squirrels in it, so one by one they pull the squirrels out, shaking their heads with a squirrel in their mouth to make sure it knows who’s boss, and then giving the squirrels a good chew once they’re done.
They’ve recently create a new game called “make mommy search the whole house to find these squirrels.” It involves two puppies taking six squirrels from two Hide-A-Squirrels and then hiding them at various places around the house. Mommy can tell with one look that there are not six squirrels in the puppy room. Because searching the house for six tiny stuffed squirrels is soooo much fun, I thought I’d document one of these games for you.
The Crime Puppy Scene
The puppies have a designated play rug where they are supposed to chill and hang out. There are no trees and no squirrels.
The Hunt
And now the “fun” begins. First stop – my office, where I found an empty tree trunk next to some boxes and envelopes. There are no squirrels.
Tally:
Trees – 1
Squirrels – 0
Next, I checked the kitchen. The other tree trunk was next to the refrigerator. One of the girls must’ve dropped it while giving me puppy eyes as I was taking food out of the fridge.
Tally:
Trees – 2
Squirrels – 0
Back to the living room. One squirrel was clearly there.
I found another squirrel hidden in the corner between the ottoman and the couch.
I checked under the ottoman and found a zebra, but no squirrels.
Then I checked under the couch and hit the jackpot. Three squirrels.
Tally:
Trees – 2
Squirrels – 5
The only thing missing now was the final squirrel. This little guy had made a run for it and made it all the way to the dining room.
Tally:
Trees – 2
Squirrels – 6
Done! Finally, all the squirrels were safe and sound back in their trees, ready for another adventure with the pups.
Disclaimer: No compensation was given for this post. I purchased the Hide-A-Squirrel myself and thought I would share the “fun.”
That was really cute! It looks like you had fun creating the pics/adding words. I enjoyed this!
So cute and adorable. I am gonna have to buy one of these as a christmas present for a family member.
Oh how we love our pets and their quirks! I remember when my dog was a puppy, he would play with a retractable cat toy.
thanks for the info
This is so adorable, looks like another Christmas gift idea ty.
this is really cute
Oh my gosh, I so want this lol. It is so cute! Thanks for sharing. I loved reading that!
This post just made my day!! I could just “see” this as it was happening…LOL!
Awe – that’s cute. I bet when a pet first sees that – they are in heaven.
My cat would like to join you in the hunt.
Hahaha so cute!!
I donβt know who would have more fun the dogs or the kids…cute toy.
What a cute toy! It’s such a great idea!
O have a puppy and two little girls that would really like this
what a great toy! i’ve got 2 “babies” of my own, and i know that my youngest would love this!! he thinks squirrels are the best thing in the world to chase! he peeks his head out the window and barks at them all day as if he were angry with them for being in his yard!! i think i’ll get him this toy!
We have these for our dog and she loves them. π Thanks for this post!
I have never seen anything like the hunt for the squirrels but I even enjoyed their antics.
This is so cute! And your review was so funny π I think my Jack Russel would love this. She always hunts squirrels when we are camping.
Not sure where you found this toy, but looks like a great one for my dogs (all 10) YES I said 10 lol. However, not sure of the durability, I have 1 that likes to pick the stuffing out of stuffed animals until they look like a balloon that lost all of it’s air.
Very cute! I bet my pup would have a blast with the squirrel toy too, although she would probably end up chewing the squirrels up. Thanks for the laugh!
It’s funny because the girls actually have “de-stuffed” all the squirrels. They’ve got it down to an art form where they can pull out the squeaker and stuffing in just a few minutes. Then they proudly strut around the house with the now de-stuffed squirrel.
