I’m a big fan of face masks. There’s something strangely therapeutic about slathering a nice smelling goo all over your face, thinking that it’s wonderfully sucking out all of the impurities so they can be washed down the drain like magic. Well, now there’s a line of face masques that smell deliciously like food and uses the benefits of food to improve your skin as well. According Russian-American model, Galina Todd, “You are what you eat. Hungry pores require nutrients just like the rest of the body…”
In an effort to bring “healthy eating” to our skin, Ms. Todd recently launched a new three-piece face masque collection made with ingredients that you would normally associate with eating called Trio Delicious. Here’s my analysis of the three different masques that make up the Trio Delicious collection, made by Moy Sekret: ChoKolata, Almondine, and Orangata.
ChoKolata
Product description: “An energy masque made with real chocolate and formulated to provide uplifting, natural, and beautifying effects. All skin types.”
Smells & Texture: The ChoKolata mask smells exactly like chocolate pudding. I chuckled a bit when I read the container because it warns you that “You will be tempted to taste it…Please don’t! It’s for your skin only.” The texture of the masque is thick and smooth. If you put this masque in a pudding cup, your husband/boyfriend/child will try to eat it. Seriously. So don’t leave this face masque un-guarded.
Ingredients: Water, Kaolin, Bentonite, Pure Cocoa, Micronized Laminaria (Algae from Britanny France), Cetyl Alcohol, Chocolate Oil, Honeysuckle Extract, Mallow Extract, Rosemary Extract
Results: The ChoKolata goes on thick and with it’s dark color, you’re able to easily tell which areas are covered with the masque. After wearing for 10 minutes and then rinsing, I was able to notice that some of the fine wrinkles along my cheekbones were much less obvious. Overall, my face felt “tighter” without a dried out feeling that other facial products can cause. Just a warning, do not use this masque when you’re hungry. Wearing something that smelled so good for 10 minutes was torture before dinner-time. I also didn’t want to eat dinner – I wanted to skip right to dessert.
Almondine
Product description: “A brightening masque made with naturla almonds and pure honey to help eliminate impurities, stimulate circulation, tone and smooth. All skin types.”
Smells & Texture: The Almondine masque smells like almond extract. Personally, I love the smell of almond extract and I sniffed this masque probably a few times more than a normal person would. The texture is definitely on the thicker side, and you have small pieces of almond mixed into the masque.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin, Almonds, Honey, Titanium Dioxide, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbate-40, Stearic Acid, Steareth-2, DMDM Hydantoin & Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Almond Extract.
Results: I was surprised at how gently this masque went on. I’m used to exfoliating masks being very grainy and harsh to the skin. The almonds were very gentle and weren’t irritating. They recommend that you leave it on for 5 minutes, and then massage for an additional 3-5 minutes. After the initial 5 minutes, I noticed that the masque was a little bit thicker than when you first put it on, but it wasn’t so stiff that it was difficult to massage. After rinsing off the masque, my face felt very clean and smooth. It also had a slightly pink (like I was just recovering from a minor embarrassment) look that suggests increased circulation.
Orangata
Product description: “A moisturizing masque made with jelly and the fragrance of spring orange flowers and formulated to soothe and rescue skin from dehydration. Dry to normal skin types.”
Smells & Texture: The Orangata didn’t smell as much like the real thing (an orange) as the two other masques, however it was still a pleasant citrusy smell. It smells a little bit like an orange scented sunscreen. The texture was a lot thinner as well, definitely more like a gel or jelly. A little goes a long way with this masque.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Aloe Vera Gel, Orange Oil Extract, Chamomile Extract, Carbomer 940, TEA, Orange Flower Extract, Annato Extract, DMDM Hydantoin & Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate
Results: With the onset of the cold weather and the heater running a lot more, I’ve noticed that my skin is a little bit dryer so I was really looking forward to trying this masque to help get rid of those icky white patches of dry skin around my mouth. When you first put the masque on, it’s very cooling (probably from the aloe) and is very easy to smooth on. After 10 minutes, I washed it off, and my face felt very refreshed. A few hours later, I noticed the dry spots popping up again, but I suspect with regular use of this masque, those would go away.
Conclusion
I enjoyed using each of these face masques and thought that they performed their advertised goals. I plan on using all three of them until the bottom of the jars are completely clean. I picture myself using the Almondine and ChoKolata on a weekly basis, and the Orangata when my face needs an extra burst of moisture.
If you would like to try these face masques out yourself, or gift them to a friend who would appreciate these yummy facial treats, the ChoKolata, Almondine, and Orangata are available for purchase online at www.moysekret.com and are currently on sale (as of writing this post) for $20.99 each.
