Zazzle and Avery have recently teamed up to bring us the ability to create our own custom binders. Many of us have already been attempting to do this by buying the white binders with the clear covers, then sliding a pretty picture or design layout under the cover to try to brand the binder. This doesn’t have a completely professional look, and almost always, the page slips around and leaves little patches of black ink stuck on the inside of the clear binder cover.
Now, we can create real custom binders. We can use one of Zazzle’s many premade templates, or we can design our own covers by using their design guides. As you’ll be able to see from the photos, I decided to create my own binder cover. If you want more than a standard template but aren’t a designer, then you can shop one of the thousands of designs that other custom binder creators have made and given permission to be sold on the Zazzle Marketplace. (BTW, if you love subscription boxes, check out the new subscription box marketplace.) If you just want to use a picture or two, you can upload those to the front, back, or spine. Here’s a picture of the interface you can use to upload your image(s):
The Zazzle design site allows you to resize and reposition the pictures however you’d like and add text to them. After loading your design, pictures, and text, you can preview what your binder looks like before ordering. You can use the arrows to rotate the binder all the way around for a full circle view. This is also the page where you can select the interior binder color and the type of rings you would like in your binder.
After adding it to your cart, you still have one more chance to edit your binder if needed before placing the final order. I placed my order on Monday, October 26th. On Tuesday, October 27th, I received a UPS notice that my custom binder was being shipped, and on Friday, October 30th, the binder was at my door when I came home.
The quality of the print job on the binder is amazing. It looks exactly how the preview looked. All of the text and images came out extremely clear, especially considering that the cover of the binder has a slightly bumpy texture.
Here are a couple shots of the actual binder that arrived.
