I joined a legitimate mystery shopper company a few years ago and I did one assignment. I was so nervous–it wasn’t a typical shop–it was for an oil change at a dealership–I think they knew, too. Can’t explain it, but I’m pretty sure they knew. Most times the jobs offered are not near me and don’t pay enough to justify driving, but there are some people who make a living doing this.
