The joys of car ownership can be somewhat of a roller coaster ride. When you buy your first car, you’re totally excited because, “OMG I have my first car!” That thrill is followed closely by a brief reality check – car insurance. If you can afford car insurance, it’s something that I do recommend. I’ve had my brushes with other cars (some my fault, some other people’s fault) and it was nice to know that there was a company there that could help me get my car up and running and back on the road.
I still remember the first time I drove in a Boston winter. I was carefully driving to work, slowly made a right hand turn, and screeeeee! I slid right into a car coming the other direction. Fortunately, no one was hurt. We exchanged insurance information and that was it. The insurance company handled everything else.
While there are lots of commercials that say they can save you time, money, and promise you the moon, it’s important that you do your own research for what auto insurance company fits your needs the best. Are you trying to fit a budget? Do you want extra coverage? How much of a deductible do you want?
Take the time to search each car insurance company and see which of their plans work for you, your budget, and where you live. For example the hartford comprehensive car insurance plan not only covers your “regular” insurance needs, but also covers theft, fire, and some weather-related events like hail or windstorms. Just like you might get earthquake protection if you live in California, you should consider additional protection for your car.
Don’t forget, that lots of companies also offer discounts if you have multiple policies with them, so keep that in mind if you also have home or business insurance.
Good points. I have always had car insurance because you never know what can happen.
I thoroughly review my auto insurance policy every year and shop around for quotes. Thanks for the tips.
We have always had car insurance- its a state law here–but you do have to shop around– We were with one company for many many years– but had to switch as they could not give us a better rate than others were trying to. It turned out good , we have switched and have been with the new company for over two years at a much more reasonable rate, and better coverage- Thanks for the up date
Thanks for the heads up!
I completely agree do your research and options on the best insurance at an affordable price and i think its crazy how in the same state depending on where you live cost fluctuate. In a city in michigan if you live in on the south or west side the insurance premium is higher than the other parts of the city.
Double van insurance is for twin-cab, off-road vehicle and pick-up vans. Since they are heavy vehicles, van insurance will be a little expensive.
