Rice is a staple in virtually every Asian household. While whole grain or brown rice is a growing trend, jasmine rice will always be stocked in my cupboards. It’s a great side dish or base for practically anything. Don’t quote me on this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you could swap out most pastas with rice.
One of the challenges I have with rice is that it tends to dry out when I store cooked rice in the fridge. That can make reheating left over rice a challenge. Put it in the microwave, and it will dry out even more, resulting in crispy rice instead of steamed rice.
Here’s a trick for how to reheat rice and avoid creating crispy rice. Simply place a moistened paper towel over your rice before microwaving. I thought it was just a random trick I learned in college, but apparently it’s a recommended rice-reheating practice.
The moisture in the paper towel essential steams your rice so that it doesn’t dry out while you’re reheating it. While I haven’t tried it yet, this method may work with pasta as well!
